There's Great, Good and Querky!!

Fabulous location, friendly wardens, immaculate facilities, best stocked shop ever and level pitches what more could you ask for? I can see why this site is so popular. The local wildlife made for an interesting 2 weeks in October, the deer rut was in full flow and the sound of the rutting stags could be heard 24/7, the ducks of which there are loads and appear to be resident are quacking rather like laughing hyenas and the local population of crows or rooks (couldn’t decide which) roost very nearby, squabbling over the best branch to perch on and then calling every morning as soon as day breaks. They must also spend a great deal of time in the site trees because our awning, car and van were covered in mess. Combined with the constant turnaround of caravans and motorhomes I cannot honestly say that I found it a peaceful site but it was never dull! The site is all hard-standings with not a lot of green areas. There are a lot of overhanging trees which is great if you want shade in hot weather but not so good when it’s raining and the constant drip, drip is like torture. I suppose it depends on the time of year, but when we were there the leaves were still on the trees, the days were getting shorter and there was not a lot of autumn sunshine so it was a bit on the dark side. I would imagine that this site is completely different depending on the time of year that you visit. Most importantly be aware that you cannot gain access to the site before 1pm as they put a chain across the entrance and there is nowhere to wait so take heed and do not arrive before time. (I wondered why they told you the location of lay-bys nearby – now I know). This also means that leaving the site between 12.50 and 2pm is impossible as there is a never-ending stream of incoming traffic. Sunday is apparently one of their busiest days with up to 80 units coming and going. They are obviously used to the high turn around and are very efficient at getting you to find your pitch prior to returning to the office to do the paperwork and get your gate key for the ‘secret gate’ into the park. Having said all that YES we will definitely return it is a lovely part of the country, and there is still a lot more to explore and I am now a convert to Bakewell Pudding!
