Not a restful site

We have stayed at this site a number of times purely because of the park & ride service into the town centre. However, as this is a racecourse, there seems to be constant comings & goings at all times - both day & night connected to the racecourse. Vehicles and machinery being used at antisocial hours and this morning we had a generator & power washer going from 7am to past 1pm. Yesterday there was a delivery (?) at 8am crashing crates which echoed throughout the site. These annoyances are common to every stay we’ve had on this site. Unfortunately, the gypsy fraternity will occasionally break into the park & ride car park and camp there causing the residents of the Club site to ring for access from the site security and you need to run the gay through the thoroughfare whilst Jack Russells snap at your heels and children swear at you. I would say the site staff are pleasant and obliging and keep the place clean but if you are looking for an undisturbed nights sleep or restful break - don’t come here!

No better than three years ago

Unfortunately this site hasn't improved since i was last here. The staff were rude and unhelpful and gave us the wrong directions to the pitch, after complaining about the booking and where we'd parked on arrival - in pitch blackness. It's basically a soulless car park in the middle of the racecourse, with signage you're not likely to see if you arrive after dark. There are much nicer and better run club sites in the vicinity.

excellent staff.

Marcela and Richard couldn't be more helpful, good access to town walk or bus, bus routes to several places and some nice cycle routes into Cotswold's, the grass pitches are best quite a bit of a slope on hard standings, will come back.

An interesting site

As everyone says the view across the racecourse to the hills is really nice. The site slopes a lot and more so with the non-electric pitches which slope diagonally and I could get nowhere near level with ramps. The grass pitches slope the least. There is refrigeration plant in the centre of the stand which I found intrusive particularly at night. Pitches near the ends of the stand are less affected. The facilities are adequate just not attractive. Pittsville Park is a nice area to visit and not too far to walk. There is a path around the course but in places it is narrow with nettles and as I was wearing shorts I had to retreat. There is no convenience stores or pubs nearby.

Great Location

Our first experience as new members of the caravan & motorhome club which didn't get off to a great start! I made an error on the booking, booking Sat, Sun & Mon when we actually want Fri, Sat & Sun which was quickly remedied but at a £5 cancelation cost for the Monday night which I gracefully accepted as it was my fault. The site is nothing more than a car park using the racecourse toilets as it's facilities which were clean & just about adequate. There was no electricity on site for the majority of the Sunday which didn't really bother us as we weren't able to use the EHU due to the connection points being a considerable distance from our pitch. If you managed to get a suitable pitch then there was fantastic views to be had over the racecourse but the majority of pitches just looked onto neighbouring caravans or motorhomes. There was a constant noise from the air conditioning units in the middle of the site that ran 24/7 unless there's a power cut! On to the positives the site is in an excellent location for access into Cheltenham via the park & ride which is 5 minutes walk from the site entrance. Also around a 15 minute walk to the Cheltenham station on the GWSR which provided a great day out.

Great location for a short break

This racecourse based site is ideally located to visit Cheltenham and the Cotswolds. During our stay we used the Steam Railway to travel to Broadway stopping at Toddington on the way back as well as a couple of trips in to Cheltenham using the park and ride bus right outside the site. The Deya Brewery is just a few minutes walk away from the main train station also served by the bus. Also good for walking with a circuit of the racecourse available but also easy access to walk some of the Cotswold Way. I was surprised by some of the reviews criticising the site for being basic. The only amenity missing is a childrens play area but this is a racecourse. We are lucky that the club has secured a number of racecourse sites giving us great access to cities such as Cheltenham, Warwick etc.

Cheltenham Racecourse

Pleasant site with nice views of the course. Clean and tidy. You can walk around the outside of the course and into Prestbury on the way. There is a park and ride into Cheltenham (we didn't use it) & a steam train to get you to other places in the Cotswolds. It was a great base for a couple of nights and the site owners/wardens were very pleasant and helpful. We would use it again.

Charming Cheltenham

We come to Cheltenham every year mainly for the festivals and this year for Wychwood. Nice to meet many other festival goers on site too. Such lovely views from the site and a great walk around the racecourse. The steam train ride is close by and there are many parks in Cheltenham to see and walk around, great shopping area and a lido for swimming. All this on your doorstep, what more could you want! Just need to remember that you are staying at a racecourse which adds to the charm of the site.

Whatever you do - don't arrive before 1pm

I know it says that pitches are available from 1pm but I had a distance to travel to get to this site and needed to do a work call. Ended up arriving at 12:30 to a very empty site, with vast swathes of space available. Asked if there was somewhere I could just park and do some work until the pitches were available. Absolutely not, had to leave the site and literally park just outside where I was able to do my work calls. No common sense applied to a reasonable request. Made the start of a stay really unpleasant. Site OK, great views over the racecourse

Stayed here several times. It's a great location.

The campsite is quite basic compared to other club sites. Nearly all the pitches have a slope, but if you know that beforehand it's not a problem. Although they state that TV reception is only "fair," we have never had a problem. Disappointingly, on our latest stay the hot water taps in the gents toilets were not working which indicates a certain lowering of standards for such a site. It might only be a small thing, but it demonstrates that those who are running the site are not really interested in the comfort of their guests! It will not stop us visiting again, but leaves us wondering what might not be working next time?

Comment from the Club

Many thanks for your review and we are delighted to read you enjoyed the location of the campsite. We are sorry that due to a fault, while hot water remained available in all the showers, only cold water was available from the wash basins in the mens toilet facilities. An engineer was called out and the problem was located and rectified by the morning on Tuesday 11th April. We are sorry for any inconvenience but hope this reassures you of the Club's best attention in these matters.
