Bit disappointed

We only stayed at the site for two days as a stopgap on the way back from Wales. The staff were friendly and helpful as always. The pitches are mainly hard-standing and some of them had a very severe slope, especially away from the stand. Although there are many pitches there were very few gents showers and traps, three only although I was informed the ladies had more. The shower controls were difficult and the washbasins were unusually not in separate cubicles. Somehow this did not feel like a Caravan club site so I will only use it to stop if I am going over the border again. Proximity to the steam railway was a bonus, my main reason for visiting. Not much else on site for the younger ones I'm afraid.

Always worth a visit

We've stayed here a few times now and Cheltenham is always worth a visit as there is usually something happening in the town.  I recommend the walking tour available from the Tourist Information.  The museum is nearby and also well worth a visit.   The beauty of this site is that because the majority of the pitches are hard standing then the weather is immaterial.  The setting with the Cotswolds surrounding the racecourse is fantastic.

5 Nights at Cheltenham

Racecourse sites are different, lots of tarmac but that means feet stay dry and clean. We parked by the rail but even with high levelling blocks we were not quite level (good enough as the view was lovely). Great wardens and a nice welcome by name even before we had spoken. Spotless toilet block and showers were big but had rather weak water pressure, although plenty of hot water. We used the washing up facilities which were fine but somewhat hidden away. Excellent free wifi via Jockey Club (be creative with email address!) and had to log in each day anew. We couldn’t get any TV reception wherever we pointed the aerial but we streamed on iPad to watch things. Easy walk to Park & Ride where we caught a 94X bus to Gloucester at 7.30am on a Dayrider ticket for £5 return each. Coming back we needed a 94U to get back to the P&R (remember to ring the bell for stopping at P&R as the bus only turns round there). Gloucester was a nice place to wander and the docks and Designer Outlet are worth the walk. We also went to Gloucester on the 97/98 service and saw every side street and village on the way but it stopped near the Gloucester Archives which was the reason for the visit. For the Archive trip we took the P&R bus into Cheltenham then the 97 from there – more expensive as we didn’t get the right ticket for the whole journey – ask advice as bus drivers were very helpful.  We walked into Cheltenham twice, through the park downhill in and uphill back but a comfortable walk and interesting architecture to view on the way. Good shopping both upmarket and charity shops and plenty of choice for eating out.  In all a great break away and a well placed site for motor home users who like to park then bus about.  We were two retired people without family or dog so I can't really comment for families but there was an almost complete, fabulous new playground in the park that our 4 year old granddaughter would spend hours at.

bit of info

just visisted this site for the first time.thought i give some tips. plz dont be put off by my remarks ,but thought its nicer to let some folk know..if you are intending putting up a awning or wind breaker then you have to have a grass pitch.all other pitches are hard standing with no availability for this. if you pitch near the railings of the racecourse, you will have to walk and tow your wastewater/toilet quite some distance.fresh water is easier.it like being on the side of a hill with no terraces, so leveling blocks will be needed on 99% of most pitches, either front to back or side to side.if you pitch infront of the grand stand then is like a big cave and everthing echoes and beware of cars driving over your electric lead, but you have the besst views.behind the grand stand is closer to toilets ect but you have no views.wardens where very nice and informative.site is nice and clean.good for visiting area and walks.. would i return .sadly no.lots of niggly things bad but not the sites fault.(travelers in the next field.would have been nice to be told before hand)

A weekend away close to home

It is a site on a racecourse car park which has limited level spots so don't forget your levellers! Unfortunately the grass pitches were unavailable due to the bad weather that we've had.  If you get a good spot the views are stunning & great for those of us with dogs as there's many walks around & the Stream Railway is there too. Enjoyed our stay & yes we will be going back

Had a great time

Rating this site is really problematic because it does not fit into the usual Caravan Club format. It is after all the car park on a racecourse! We did however have a great time and would go back. There are lovely dog walks, as in other quirky sites we have visited fellow campers are friendly. We encountered real problems because the disabled facilities were not in use.this made life a bit risky for my husband and a bit stressful for me. It might have been helpful to flag up the problems on the website. We did the walk into town with a mobility scooter, very easy through the park. The Pump House is a must.Plenty of dog friendly eating venues.Quite a few individual shops. Be warned ,you will need to use the levellers on site but it really is a great campsite 7 the wardens are very courteous and  keep the facilities clean.

Very welcoming and friendly

A great site for visiting Cheltenham. As mentioned the town is a stroll through the park to access. Look at the pump rooms as you go. The site is very quiet and beautifully maintained. Almost all hardstanding but you will really need to use levelling blocks! If you are attending an event at the course you will be amazed at the site. Best of all was the welcome from the warden. Really friendly and helpful, booked us in as we arrived. Enjoy your stay!

Good in parts

We've been here many times for Cheltenham Literature and Science festivals. It is easy to find and access, no narrow lanes or difficult roads. We always pitch on the Tarmac, basically the car park. If you do this be prepared for others to run over your mains cable as it is all but impossible to avoid it. This year (2015) there was major building going on on the new stand. The site is convenient for Cheltenham, 25 minutes walk or nearby Park and Ride bus (£1:80 each - each way, or free if you have an English bus pass). The worst part of this site is the showers, they are owned by the Jockey Club not CC. They are electric showers but the room is not warm. The worst part is that the showers are in pairs but the water from one drains through the downstream shower to the drain. Not nice.

A very pleasant site

Stayed here for four nights in September and as always enjoyed our time here.   We had a hard standing site which was fine, if a bit far from the facilities, the view and the nearby lovely town of Cheltenham more than compensated for that.   Hope to be back again before too long. Thank you.
