Bad weather camping.

We came to Cheltenham Racecourse in preference to the seaside because of bad weather and it was perfect. The park and ride to Cheltenham is a few minutes from the site and stops in the town centre with its shops, restaurants, museums and cinemas. The centre is also within 20 minutres walking distance. We could also catch buses to various towns around such as Gloucester, Tewkesbury, Stroud etc. The weather perked up at one stage and our grandson enjoyed Pitville Park with its rides, lake, boating, skateboarding and huge open areas, not to mention its beautiful trees which make perfect hide-aways. The staff on site are friendly and helpful, altogether a perfect stay.

Very different - not for everyone, read up first!!!

First, and last, stay on a racecourse site. For the first time was so disappointed that didn't even stay for the night as it felt so hostile, unsafe and unwelcoming. Fon hard standing read sloping car park with very tight pitches, so much so that campers had to sit by their A frame for safety. Despite a dogs welcome sign, you are greeted with a typed note telling you to take your dog off site, strictly enforced by the wardens, which from the bottom of the site is long way for anyone desperate for a toilet. How do you tie your dog up in a car park? I would be worried bringing my grandchildren here due to no lane markings and definition of safe zones, regardless that there are no facilities for them. The contractors working on the racecourse were loud and swore a lot. Facilities are poorly signed and had to direct other bemused campers to water and loos. If all you want is a pit stop to visit Cheltenham or a day at the races this is the site for you. If not look elsewhere.

Stunning location

I agree with all the comments in the above reviews; we have used this site twice for an overnight stay, to and from the South West, and we cannot fault it. The views are wonderful and if you don't want to walk into Cheltenham, the Park and Ride is 100 metres away.  The facilities are first class.  We ate at The Royal Oak in Prestbury, a 10 minute ride away. Excellent food.  The location of the site is perfect for the M5.  I rated it 5 for families, even though there are no facilities to amuse children, they are not far away, and the there are walks around the racecourse.

Different

Bit disappointed on arrival as the site was so different but our disappointment vanished when we saw the spectacular  views. Not suitable for families due to minimal grassy areas but facilities were excellent. Would like to revisit when the  racing is on

A night at the races

Stopped off at Cheltenham on my way south in August, and found a warm welcome here - an unusual site but very comfy and safe. The loos and showers deserve a special mention - outstanding facilities. The site is within walking distance of the city, via a lovely, historic park with children's play area, cafe, lake and aviaries. A big choice of pitches on grass or tarmac, all with sweeping views of the race course and the Cotswolds beyond. There was no racing on, and construction/maintenance noise was minimal. Would definitely pitch up here again.

Lovely Location

We booked for one night here with our two children as we were on out way to a wedding. We found the site to be very quiet, relaxed, perfect. A walk into Cheltenham was through the park which was lovely for my 13 year old and 9 year old.We sat and watched a wedding at the Pump House in the park. Back on site everything was clean, yes you are in a car park but the view of the race course and across to the hills are stunning. We would love to come back and stay again. I rated the site low for families because its mainly concrete.

Fell at the first fence

Booked in at Cheltenham as Tewksbury was full. Might just as well have stayed on a Tesco car park. An acute shortage of grassed areas, and tired toilet facilities. Would be a great site for a horse racing fan, but not for me! One night was enough.

Lovely views

We stayed here for just one night having travelled from Worthing. We arrived at 5 p.m. on the Sunday evening. The warden was friendly and helpful and showed us to our pitch and helped us to reverse on to it. The pitch was on tarmac but that didn't matter because we didn't need an awning pitch just for one night, no aerial TV booster but that also didn't matter for just one night. The views were stunning over the racecourse and surrounding hills.

Gypsy Traveller

We stayed three nights on this site, site access is easy, the wardens very welcoming , warm and friendly, the site itself is spotless as are the toilets / Showers, the views are stunning! - All this said I felt as though I was a gypsy traveller parking on a tarmac car park! Although if you can get your head round that its great for exploring Cheltenham and the surrounding area, or a mere stop off over night stay. Would recommend the site - and also Cheltenham Lido, the Kids loved it!
