Stayed here several times. It's a great location.

The campsite is quite basic compared to other club sites. Nearly all the pitches have a slope, but if you know that beforehand it's not a problem. Although they state that TV reception is only "fair," we have never had a problem. Disappointingly, on our latest stay the hot water taps in the gents toilets were not working which indicates a certain lowering of standards for such a site. It might only be a small thing, but it demonstrates that those who are running the site are not really interested in the comfort of their guests! It will not stop us visiting again, but leaves us wondering what might not be working next time?

Comment from the Club

Many thanks for your review and we are delighted to read you enjoyed the location of the campsite. We are sorry that due to a fault, while hot water remained available in all the showers, only cold water was available from the wash basins in the mens toilet facilities. An engineer was called out and the problem was located and rectified by the morning on Tuesday 11th April. We are sorry for any inconvenience but hope this reassures you of the Club's best attention in these matters.

Ok for a stopover but wouldn't stay more than 1 night

On arrival we went to reception and received a lovely welcome at reception. As it was quiet we had a choice of pitches. It was quite confusing when we drove around where the pitches were despite being given a map. Eventually we decided on a pitch and set up. We had 2 children with us aged 15 & 9 and they started to play football on the wide open space, whilst we set up. An official looking man told them they were not allowed to play football, so they came back to the caravan. The following morning we used the toilet facilities, which were spacious & clean. To be honest it was fine as a stopover for 1 night on our way to Cornwall, but not a site we would stay at again in the future. I can imagine that it would be perfect if you were there for the races, but perhaps without children.

No Frills

I would describe it as a no frills campsite, but one I will stay again at. Showers and toilets spotless. Welcoming team helpful and you get a lovely view across the racecourse. The price reflects the no frills, so if you want plush book elsewhere. Make sure if you get the park and ride into Cheltenham you venture to the Montpellier area ( south) as where you get of the bus is not Cheltenham's 'selling point'. I recommend Sam's for a bite to eat and John Gordons for a nice glass of something, both in Montpellier area

Not my cup of tea

As with all the Club sites we were met by friendly wardens and as it was our first visit to the site they gave a full run down of pitches and facilities etc. Most of the pitches were on a slope and on concrete. We had booked a standard pitch with awning, so we were on grass but even then struggled to get level. The facilities were clean and ok but half the toilet cubicles were closed no mention anywhere why. There was a function on at the Course one of the days which was quite noisy and to sit outside wasn’t very pleasant. The best bits are the view of the course and the location for visiting Cheltenham.

Fantastic iconic site

Three night stay over the bank holiday weekend. Having attended the races at Cheltenham for nearly 40 years, this was our first time staying at the site and absolutely loved our time here. The wonderful wardens (Phil and Debs - the best and nicest we have come across anywhere), the fantastic views across the racecourse towards Cleeve Hill from our pitch, the spotlessly clean toilet, shower and washing facilities, the walk around the racecourse itself, Prestbury village a 10 min walk away, the Gloucester and Warwickshire Heritage Railway a 5 min walk away - the list goes on. An added bonus was the Wychwood Festival taking place at the racecourse (CAMC site in in Foster's enclosure, festival other side by Tattersalls) which could be enjoyed from outside the van. Would fully recommend a visit and will definitely return.

The friendliest site!

We stayed over the jubilee bank holiday, as a party of 3 couples. On arrival, we was invited to a Jubilee get together at reception the following day, by the very welcoming wardens Debs and Phil. Beer, Prosecco and nibbles were provided, and a fun jubilee quiz to take part in. We ended up taking our chairs to reception and stayed all afternoon! We had a great time, a lovely atmosphere, and we really enjoyed chatting with the other guests. We even arranged to meet back later with some of them and walked to the nearby park together for the evening celebrations there! The site has fantastic views, spotlessly clean and in a great position. It is definitely the wardens though who make this site special, Debs and Phil are the most friendliest we have met, and we will return to stay with them again! Thanks for a fab stay!

Wonderful site

Visited this site a few times pre pandemic and couldn't wait to return last week. It's a wonderful site, with beautiful views...just wish it was open all year round! Walking distance in to Cheltenham, which is great. Also, a little village 15 mins walk part way round the course is worth a visit as had 3 x excellent pubs (Prestbury?) Facilities are spotless as are the pitches. A special mention to the site staff...especially the lovely lady that knitted all the Royal characters on display in reception in readiness for the Jubilee weekend. She and her husband are some of the nicest wardens we've encountered. We hope to return very soon. Thank you.

Good base for visiting Cheltenham

Read reviews so knew basically what to expect. Greeted by friendly 'temporary' wardens. Selected tarmac EHU pitch due to wind, not particularly good views but that was our choice. Plenty of pitches available with great views over the course and beyond, definitely levelling block req'd. Easy walk into town via road or much nicer through Puttville park. Park & ride available at entrance to site. Steam railway running from site Fri/Sat. Motorhome point just past reception. Toilet/showers/chemical disposal clean and functional. Cream tea/cake slices/milk available at reception. Arrival time now from 1pm as are most other club sites. Some late night disco noise from function in one area of the stands, but didn't run into the early hours. Information in handbook to follow brown 'Racecourse' signs is near to useless, signage when there is faded and doesn't take into consideration diversions. We were not the only people who struggled to find it, the unit checking in behind us ended up 7 miles away from the site.

What a GEM

Last minute booking after staying on the Henley site. Fantastic meet and greet excellent, nice to see staff who interact with customers happy to do so and not the opposite., picked pitch on grass, levelling not required. On the whole the reason I ignore negative reviews is why I ended up here. I parked on grass, no levelling required. The vista from our MH of the course and surrounding hills is beyond belief. We didn't hear any road noise or any noise. Woken one morning, by the statutory barking dog, not the dogs fault just the stupid owner. The location is superb for countryside walks or into Cheltenham town centre about 20 minutes via a lovely park. Used the park and ride once which is so handy but preferred to walk. We don't have a freebie pass yet, so the cost for two adults is a fiver return. TV reception, mobile and mifi all excellent. Fortunately the UB40 concert on the course had been cancelled!! Shall definitely return, oh and ablutions were fine. Visited 21-23rd May 22

Geocaching Trip

If booking beware of the slope ... even on full height on our chocks we were way out of level but view was good. Bus service into Cheltenham from the Park & Ride close to the site , had to pay even with our bus passes, it was only a £1 but first time we have had to pay while using our passes. We strayed here on the racecourse to go out on our bikes as well as walking to look for Geocaches. The town has a few nice caches hidden in it plus lots in the area that we found using the bikes. Enjoyed the Cream Tea ( purchased from the wardens office, make you own tea ) in the sun sat right next to the track 50 yards from our van. Walk to the showers and toilet block was quiet long glad weather was kind, as normal block very clean. Some day time noise but overnight very peaceful. Back in town had a very good coffee at a old French Fire Truck parked up on a church yard that we found while Geocaching, the closest we have got to being back in France where we would be apart from Brexit and Covid. We were not the only people who struggled with the signs to the site but road works did not help .Free Wifi from the Jockey Club. Might use again but hope we can get a much flatter pitch.
