I don't complain often but with this site I have to.

First impressions - Strange to be greated by security guards at the entrance of the site. Not sure why, didn't ask. Doesn't look good but I guess if they had troubles in the past then it's reassuring to have them there. Negative points- I felt abit frustrated that my son (who is autistic) couldn't play soft tennis by our pitch. Even thou he was using a soft sponge ball (there wouldn't be any damage caused to any vehicle or to any awning) but was told off by a warden. Playground is hidden by trees so vision is blocked, there's no way of seeing them playing on thier own. So not very child friendly. Hot water wasn't hot as I like, other CAMC sites that we've stayed at have been hotter. Some club members/non club members didn't show any respect for the shower block. Disgusting toilets. Bins are by the exit. The walk out of the site- minor road but very busy, there's no pathway, very narrow grass verge to walk on. Ok if you are adult, but quite dangerous when you have a toddler and an autistic child at tow, as some vehicles speed along the road, with no consideration to the public. What it had going for it - A very nice pub called Rake Hall, which we stopped at for dinner on our first night. It's the first pub you come to, when walking out of the site towards Cheshire Oaks. Friendly staff and the site itself is looked after. Good location for Cheshire Oak retail outlet and Chester Zoo. A quiet and peaceful campsite. Would I return again? Probably not. This site isn't for us.

Great location but one or two problems for me.

Negatives: Toilet/showers/dishwashing all closing at 10.15am for 1hr 45 mins - peak time for use of facilities? Awkward on packing-up morning. Can't really see why areas can't be closed separately while cleaning takes place. One toilet left available but a queue had built up there while someone was in for about 15 minutes! Warden not able to tell me which way to direct TV aerial. Not at all the fault of wardens but toilets very messy - toilet paper, used and clean all over floor, cigarette butt at side of toilet pan, empty plastic bags ?? Toilet bowls not brushed out after use. New clothes labels and other litter in showers. A sink left full of dirty water. A poor reflection on club members - Is this how they leave their bathrooms at home? Positives: Remarkably quiet considering proximity to two motorways Buses to Chester and Liverpool nearby. Wirral coast nearby - great walks in/around W Kirkby. Chester zoo. Cinemas, restaurants, pubs nearby. Good range of books and dvds to borrow Useful info folders and maps. Plenty of water supply taps around. Generally good layout.

Usual club high standards

We booked in here the day before arrival to get away from a very disappointing stay at another ( non-club ) site. We had never been to this site before but we were reassured on arrival by the usual high standard of everything ( by comparison with where we had come from ). The only disappointment, as people who like to go for walks with our dog straight from the site, was that there are really no opportunities to do so. You walk out of the site onto what is a minor road but with quite a lot of traffic on it and often travelling quite fast. There is no footpath and only a narrow grass verge to walk on and even that disappears in places. There is quite a good off-lead area for dogs within the site but we want more than that for exercising our dog. So we did once venture out down the road and did discover an interesting area to walk the dog. Turn left out of the site and follow the road for about 200 metres until just after a sign indicating the end of the speed limit where there is a signposted public footpath off to the right along a track. After a short distance the track peters out into a field of long grass which the public footpath officially crosses but there is no route on the ground. However, our dog had a great time charging round in the long grass for half an hour. It was well worth the struggle along the road to get there. The site is close to a large Sainsburys and lots of other shops in a ‘designer outlet’ but it is too dangerous to walk there. It is only a 5 minute drive though.

EXCELLENT LOCATION

Just spent 7 days here. Very clean site with good facilities. Great location. Near to park and ride, trains, pubs massive shopping outlet. Took train into liverpool to the albert docks and took a city bus tour which was hop on and off so got to see alot. Went to the famous cavern club. Chester zoo was one of the biggest zoos we have been to. The blue planet aquarium was a fabulous day out with lots to see. So much to see to do around here will have to come back.

Lovely site, great location

Our first visit to this site and we found it one of the best club sites we’ve stayed at. All the site wardens were very friendly and helpful, the facilities were immaculate and grounds really well maintained. The location is perfect for Cheshire Oaks Retail Park and there are numerous places to eat & drink, yes it is close to M56 so there is some road noise but this didn’t impact our stay at all. There is a children’s play area - just a shame some families let their children play football around the pitches - maybe a gentle reminder at check in could be added? Overall we had a lovely stay and will definitely be returning.

Really good site located perfectly

Had a wonderful stay very happy the wardens are helpful and very pleasant. One of the wardens was putting up a new wooden fence around the dog walk. This is a brilliant idea as the existing fence could allow small dogs onto the busy road . I just hope the club give him the support and wood to go all the way round It looks far more inviting than the wire fence . Also much praise for the Coronation decorations, was a loverly gesture. The site toilet block was spotless and very well maintained. As was the site in general Top site, thank you to the wardens for a loverly 2 weeks .

convenient location

Good location and within walking distance for supermarket (and Cheshire Oaks if you want this!). Yes, you can hear motorways, but just be aware of this before you stay here. Good dog area for allowing dogs to be off lead. Found the two markers on all sites helpful. Site very clean and tidy. Not sure about the bin issue as we stayed on other sites that had bins by all water points. There is a major problem with new website and if you are reading this you've done well to find the reviews and directions!

Good location

Great location to walk to Cheshire Oaks , regular buses to Chester, Chester zoo and Liverpool Plenty of places to eat and drink within walking distance. Background noise from motorway but we were aware of that before we came. Not for everyone but we enjoyed it and served our purpose. Our membership card is digital, asked to show card but no issue about handing card in. Wardens friendly and helpful.

How to shoot yourself in the foot.

First off , I am a local to this site know all about the surrounding area and use it to shakedown our Motorhome. The site is usually full like most in the Northwest on Friday and Saturday nights. The Rake pub next door requires you to book at busy times. Good but expensive to some. 1. We now have to hand our membership cards at reception. 2. We now have 2 white markers to align the van/Caravan to. 3. No bins on site just a communal bin near the exit. A good distance from anywhere to save plastic bags for gods sake. 4. Funds for the whole stay taken at 00.01 on the day of arrival. 5. The site can get noisy due to it’s location near a motorway. Why on earth would I to stay with you?

Not as good as it used to be

Stayed for three nights recently. Site busy due to a rally. Usual CAMC site but really needs some TLC. Pitches overgrown, hardstandings full of weeds, looked a mess. No rubbish bins at the service points now, you have to take all your rubbish to an area near the exit which is fenced off. The wardens don’t deal with rubbish any more, they don’t cut the grass or weed the hardstandings. Hardstandings with awning cost £34.50 a night which is too much. The CAMC have seriously lost their way and will end up pricing themselves out of the market. On top of this I seriously don’t like the new website. One more year to get your act together then we will decide whether to stay in the club or leave.
