This was a first!

Having managed to see a cancellation on-line, we set off to Coed y llwyn, which we visit a few times a year, it was after paying for the three night stay that we were advised we were being allocated a pitch as the site was full that evening. As we have an ‘average size’ 2 berth caravan we were shocked, never before on any caravan and motorhome club site have we been told that we could not choose any vacant pitch available. To make matters worse our van is neither long nor an unusual size and the ground conditions on site were neither wet or waterlogged in the nice heatwave we are currently having, and these are the circumstances described in the rules where pitch allocation may be necessary. Anyway we went to the pitch allocated to us only to find it was occupied already. Rather than drive round to the office with the van in tow we decided to call the sites reception for advice, we were told to come back to reception with van in tow to get an alternative pitch, I advised the warden that I had reversed on a vacant pitch to prevent congestion on the one way system, only to be told the vacant un reserved pitch was allocated to a van due to arrive later the same day and we would need to wait to be told where we could pitch even though we had seen four other vacant pitches we could have pitched on. We questioned this and were told to pitch up where we were. As I was finally securing the Alko wheel lock aligned at last! The Lady warden arrived asking us to move to another pitch because she said she had a lot of big units coming in and she quoted how long our van was and that we didnt need a big pitch. That infuriated us more as we all pay the same for a standard pitch with awning and so they should all be the same size!! This was the last straw, we wanted to leave and get a refund, but we were told to stay where we were. What a carry on, if there were limited white peg pitches available for large vans coming in why weren’t these pitches reserved with a cone or sign? Why discriminate against the normal small 2 berth caravan? We weren’t the only outfit treated this way, we found out later, and we were shunned by the warden for the rest of the weekend. We and our neighbours on the next pitch won’t be visiting this site again.
