A superb site

We have just spent two weeks on this lovely site. We cycled all around the area and beyond. Close enough to the coast for some days by the sea and the fabulous Jurassic headlands. The site itself is clean and well managed and the wardens welcoming and helpful but to be honest they did so well we barely noticed them. I mean that in the nicest possible way! Great introduction to Dorset and we will be back.

Woodland paradise

As new members, our first stay on a Club site. Crossways has set the bar high for other sites! How lovely to have small pockets for pitches amongst woodland, rather than regimented rows. A real back to nature experience with sightings of deer, squirrels and other wildlife, birdsong daytime and owls hooting at night. Very environmentally friendly site using dry compost toilets, surprisingly looked just like normal toilets, with no need to flush. Just a few minutes walk to the station for our trip to nearby Dorchester, an interesting town with lots of lovely architecture, river walk, pleasant park (excellent playground for children, though none with us this time!), museums, individual shops and good choice of coffee shops and restaurants /pubs. Local CoOp provided all our supplies at reasonable prices and was a 15 minute walk along the road. Even though we had torrential rain the first 24 hours, the 'grass' site was not waterlogged. Our stay wasn't long enough to take advantage of local walks, bike rides, eating in the nearby Frampton Arms (heard good reports from others about it), or take the train to Weymouth. Great place where you can go sightseeing using public transport, another environmentally friendly tick for the site!

Wonderful woodland site

We had a fabulous stay here in May. Big 'Thank you' to wardens Chris and Tom who sorted out our last minute booking and gave us a friendly welcome after a rather problematic journey. This is a lovely site and we would definitely make a return visit.

Gladed retreat

Stayed for seven nights at the beginning of June and had a lovely relaxing time amongst the beautifully landscaped and gladed areas on the site. The trains do have a proclivity to sound their horns but it's historically a safety feature as the crossing near the site is single barrier only, and yes, some people are that stupid to try and cross when the barriers are down, but it's not that onerous that it detracts from the fantastic setting you are in. Facilities were kept spick and span, staff were friendly and helpful and I did see a deer on site but sadly for me in one of the other locations as I was actually leaving the site to move on. Having said that, there are plenty of cheeky chappies to keep you amused in the shape of squirrels who finished my entire bag of peanuts for wild birds, and the crows who appear to happily give you a symphony of ca-caws upon tasting the buttered croissants from the bird table (what do you mean you don't buy croissants for the birds?!) as well as the usual array of robins, finches, blackbirds and sparrows to serenade your days if you stay on site. As one reviewer has already said the train station is ideally placed for trips to Weymouth and Dorchester (both worth a day out) and all in all the stay was very pleasant. Have already booked another three nights stay for later in the month as I criss-cross the southern coastline.

Our recent stay

We visit this site every time we go to Dorset. It is quiet and clean. The staff are very friendly and do their utmost to make your stay enjoyable. We have just had to return home from the Crossways Caravan & Motorhome Club site, Dorset after my wife was advised by Drs at Dorchester Hospital.  We would like to personally praise wardens Christine and Tom for their help on the night of 9/6/21. I had to call for an ambulance for my wife at midnight and notified Christine & Tom of this at the time and they both were very helpful, Tom waited at the gate to allow the ambulance entry to the site and Christine came to the pitch immediately and did her best to help us cope with the situation until Tom and the ambulance arrived at the pitch. The ambulance took my wife to A&E and I picked her up in the morning then we came home, everything is OK now.  We cannot give Christine & Tom enough praise for their care and help at this time. THANK YOU both. Rich & Pauline  Can you forward a copy of this to Christine & Tom please.

Not your usual club site

We were due to arrive early Friday evening but due to a situation out of our control it looked as we would not arrive until at least 8pm when the office closed. We called ahead to say we were on our way and dependant on BH traffic we may be a little late. Not to worry they said we will stay open for your arrival. That was a relief!. That made us feel relaxed to start the weekend off with.We we arrived we were informed that due to the high amount of rain in May they were needing to allocate pitches as some were not suitable. It was a busy BH weekend ahead of the half term so we had the last pitch available. This happened to be on what was normally one of their seasonal pitches which is close to the railway line. The problem was that due to the level crossing, the trains sounded their horns each time they approached. Being the main Weymouth to London line this occurred between the hours of 7am and 11pm each day. This also was an issue for one of my children that due to autism they were very sensitive to loud noises. The site in itself is beautiful, set out in little glades where vans are parked. Deer visit the site often and even during the day we stood and watched a deer looking at us as we walked our dog. The location is handy for visiting much of Dorset and with Moreton train station only a few minutes a walk away, it meant that this could be used to go to Dorchester or Weymouth quite easily if you did not want to take the car. The wardens were very friendly and always greeted you with a smile. The site was clean and even the composting loo's were not so terrifying as i initially thought! The wrist-band entry process for toilet and showers entry worked well though some did forget to remove their wristbands from the hooks, so a call into the building to as how many were there was occasionally required. We walked to Moreton Village one afternoon down country lanes and found a wonderful Walled Garden that was open to the public with sculptures in the grounds, lovely tea rooms, small farm yard and play area. Next to the gardens was the churchyard where TE Lawrence was buried as his home Clouds Hill is a little further on. From Moreton you can pick up the Lawrence Trail to reach Clouds Hill. To join the trail: with the church on your right and Moreton Tea Rooms on your left follow the lane onto the unmade track which leads to a footbridge over the River Frome Overall we had a lovely weekend and we would return to Crossways but we would need to be in a location that is away from the trainline,

Beautifully landscaped

Lovely landscaped site, that consists of glades in a wooded area. Perfectly placed next to Moreton station to get the train to Dorchester and Weymouth. Deer used to wander in and graze. Site was kept very clean and tidy and the wardens friendly. The only problem we had was the road noise. We had parked in the glade nearest the road so to some extent it was our fault. However when originally we tried a glade further away we could not get our motorhome level. The local trains were also keen on sounding their horns every time they approached the level crossing. Nonetheless we enjoyed our stay.

Not the usual club site!

We usually visit CLs so when my wife booked Crossways I wasn`t looking forward to it.. Hang on though, this site isn`t laid out like a normal club site. If you think of Crossways as a collection of CLs grouped together then hopefully you`ll get the idea. Access is good and the staff were excellent in this Covid transitional period. Showers were locked but the toilets were open and were clean. The wrist-band entry process for toilet entry is a bit hit and miss....my son waited outside a toilet that was supposed to be occupied (two wrist bands hanging up) for ages until another `vanner came to collect his wristband having forgotten to remove it after his visit had finished... All in all I really enjoyed our visit to Crossways, and I`d go again.

Excellent spot

After what seemed an indeterminable winter and period of lockdown we headed for Crossways on the first day restrictions were lifted. Staff were very helpful and given so many people also wanted to visit on the same day they managed the sudden rush of arrivals professionally and without fuss. There are lots of quiet little glades to pitch in and where we stayed all we heard was the occasional train horn. (Take a torch as the site is pitch black at night) We used the nearby station to visit first Weymouth then Dorchester and had a great day out, lots to do and see. One tip, if you want to visit the nearby grave of TE Lawrence, (Lawrence of Arabia) and the Walled Garden at Moreton either on foot or by bike, turn left out of the site and then take the next left into Redbridge road. This is a very lightly trafficked route. After a mile or so cross the railway bridge and follow your nose, down through the woods across the valley and bear right by the equestrian centre. From there its a short distance to St Nicholas church and the garden. (The grave is actually in a small separate cemetery next to the walled garden). If you want to drive there is a free car park on the corner before the church that that will accommodate motor homes as well as cars. Would definitely use this site again.

Fabulous friendly site where staff go above and beyond.

We had a 6 night stay at this site over the October Half term. We found the site staff so welcoming from the start. They were battling against heavy rains which had resulted in the closure of certain pitches but there was plenty of advice on where best to pitch and regular checks to make sure everyone was Ok, with flexibility on where to park to ensure you weren’t in the mud. During the week we visited Wareham Forest and managed to lose our dog which was very traumatic. However the wardens couldn’t have been more helpful printing posters off for us and putting them in plastic wallets because of the weather, as well as delivering them to our caravan. All this well after the time they should have been “open” for assistance. We can’t thank them enough. The posters and help of the local community (equally fabulous) meant we got our boy back the next day. We love this area and the site itself is charming. We spotted several deer and the kids loved playing in the wooded areas. Don’t be put off by the compost toilets. The cleanest, freshest smelling facilities we have seen in a long time! We will definitely return.
