excellent, made our holiday

rookies to new caravanning our last was in the days of gas only and no confusing heating and electrics. However after a disastrous start, my wife had a minor accident, my fault !!.Several members rallied round to help connect up and settle us in.We shall remain ever grateful to all of them. Then came the awning and here the Warden followed on from the evening before when his wife greeted us with such friendliness and help and got it erected within a few minutes yet more unsolicited help and advice. All this began to get the holiday off to an excellent stay Well done Warden and wife and to all the help and advice from caravan club members

Delightful & quiet

Took a chance on getting a pitch un-booked in early early August - no problem.   Stayed a couple of nights, relishing the peacefulness and good weather! The wardens were wonderful, ever so helpful and cheery.  Also has the bonus of no toilets, meaning there is at least a chance in high season of finding a pitch!

Disappointing

We booked a week at Dockray Meadow earlier this year & was so looking forward to a relaxing holiday in the lakes, however for some reason we didn't quite take to this site. The wardens were lovely, the site was immaculately clean & tidy, as are all the Caravan Club sites but we didn't find it to be the "hidden gem" as described in the write up. We found the pitches to be very short. After giving up on an attempt to pitch up on one plot, we eventually managed to fit on a pitch across the far side of the site, but only just! We only have a single axle caravan so we were surprised at the difficulty in finding a plot big enough to take our caravan. It is definitely imperative to select your pitch wisely on this site as you can feel a little hemmed in on certain pitches, I think this may have been our mistake & probably the reason for not enjoying the site as much as others we have stayed on. Cockermouth is a lovely town, as is Maryport, definitely worth a visit.

Out of this world

A pleasant site, ideal for some R&R away from everything.  The Warden’s were very welcoming. Great place to explore The Lakes from and a definite one on the list to return to.

A hidden treasure

Very helpful wardens on arrival. Pitches well spaced and maintained. Plenty to see within reasonable driving distance. A must visit site for anyone touring this region. Would go back to use site anytime. TV booster use required ( so what) to keep up with weather reports.

Far from madding crowd...

Real getaway from it all - no mobile phone signal, no wi-fi. But you can plug your tv into the club's ubiquitous booster system. Surrounded by hills, it's a taste of the Lake District, being on its back doorstep. No loo block restricts the sort of 'vanners it attracts - a plus point for many!  Very few really level pitches, so levelling blocks needed. Wardens friendly, a laid-back site with no barriers, swipe cards, keys or access codes to remember.

On The Right Track Wardens

We telephoned to say we were in a major traffic jam on the M74 but Jane and Andrew's only concern was for us, we arrived and were greeted to a very warm welcome and were told just to settle in and let them know what pitch we were on the next day.  Jane and Andrew are fantastic and so is the location, we much prefer North Lakes as they are not so commercialised but still have wonderful views.  Another site we will be rushing back to.  See you soon.

May tour 4

One of the best sites in Cumbria, quiet clean and welcoming, the wardens are so friendly and helpful. Been here 3 times now and will certainly be back. Red squirrels in the trees if you are lucky enough to see them, a small stream runs on the one side of the site. This site is very handy for visits to Buttermere etc. A little gem for sure.   Be back soon.

The Quiet Hidden gem

We have just come home from Dockray Meadow after a 4 Day break and had to write in to praise the efforts the wardens have put in. The site was immaculately maintained with a well mown and enclosed dog walking area, pitches were clean and weed free, the information centre was well stocked with local information with additional information available from the Wardens office i.e. Walking route etc. For the Dogs and Walkers in general there are routes out from the site such as the walk around Cogra Moss which takes about 1.5hrs at a steady pace( this is signed as impassable at the moment due to tree falls but we found it passable with a bit of clambering!) The site is in a great position for the North West lakes with easy access to Lowes water, Crummock water, Buttermere and Ennerdale. All in all if you like peace and quiet and walking this is a Great Site not to be missed. And for those who prefer towns etc. Keswick and Ambleside are only 30mins and 45mins away or you can try the coastal towns of Whitehaven, Workington and Maryport. All in all a great site which we will be returning to and I can highly recommend

Lovely stay!

A lovely peaceful site surrounded by fields and a water stream.  No traffic noise just the sound of horses, birds and sheep. We were fortunate to see a Red squirrel ! The pitches are spaced out well and not too close together. We were at the top end of the site wherr there is a large grass area for the kids to play. Wardens were very helpful and friendly. Will definately be returning.
