Short stay during tour of Scotland

Great location, easy access to a fantastic long and sandy beach. Wardens were very helpful and worked hard to keep the facilities sand free which is no easy task when this close to the beach and high winds. There are only 3 showers which lead to queueing a couple of times. This site is on the NC500 and is busy in a morning with people getting off on the next leg of their exploring. If using an awning you will need storm straps due to the wind which is constant. Lots to explore in the area such as John O Groats, Dunnet Head and Thurso.

Nice peaceful relaxing site

Lovely little site, perfect for a night or 2 stop over when touring the NC500. Beautiful beach and woodland to explore nearby and all the facilities you need onsite. staff are friendly and very helpful, we were given a choice of pitches when we arrived. Would stay again if visiting the highlands.

A breezy but comfortable stay

Stayed here for one night as part of the NC500. Staff were lovely and checked in on us as we were later than we said we would be arriving. Very caring. The campsite is in a perfect location, right on the beach. It is very windy here which staff say is normal. We thought it would bother us, but as long as you pitch up facing away from the wind, there's plenty of shelter. Decent selection of pitches, all on grass I think. Facilities are nice and clean with good water pressure - something important when you have thick hair! Big fan of the private wash basin cubicles - something I've noticed at most club sites. Unfortunately we could not take our dogs on the beach off the lead due to high numbers of Avian flu and thus dead birds, however this could not be avoided and is not the sites fault.

Superb location

We stayed a couple of nights here and what a fantastic place. Friendly staff, good clean facilities, great beach & woodland near by for dog and human walks. The beach very popular with watersport enthusiasts. Sadly the washing machine & dryer were not working when here and the site Wi-Fi is only available near the information room. From here we visited John o Groats, the Castle of Mey and the Dunnet head RSPB/ lighthouse (the only day we had a sea fret). All well worth visiting. One day was so lovely and sunny after many chilly days that we spent the day around the site just relaxing. We never managed to try the pub just up the road but those who we spoke to said it did lovely meals. This site is well worth staying at as part of the NC500 or for a longer stay.

Felt like being st the top of the world

Such a lovely location, right at the top of Scotland. Windy, as you might expect but the site spots right next to.a massive sandy beach popular with surfers. A really friendly and helpful couple manage the site which is spotless. Drawback or benefit, you decide, there were no shops or pubs close enough for us to walk to.

The Far North on the NC500.

Great Great Great, about as far north as you can get a CMC site with such enthusiastic wardens, who could not do enough to help with any problems not that we had any, grass pitches is not the best but there were adequate for the three nights we spent there doing the NC500 anti-clockwise.

Lovely site

Thank you for a wonderful stay. A lovely campsite with a lovely couple running it. A great location for seeing the top of Scotland with a glorious beach. The facilities were very well looked after and very clean.

Excellent Northern Location

We traveled to Dunnet Bay on the recommendation of a friend and we were not disappointed, what an excellent northern small site located a few yards from the beach. Dianne & Bernie were amazing wardens, very friendly and welcoming from the get go. They introduced their 2 spaniels Willow & Woody to our 2 Clover & Daisy. They immediately made us feel at home and as though we were old friends. Simply a lovely couple who work hard to keep the site neat, tidy and very clean. Dunnet Bay is a small site but has all you need and is ideally located right on the beach and close to John O’Groats, Dunnet Head and the Castle of Mey. Dunnet Forest is a must see with various walks for different abilities along with some hidden treasures. I won’t say what, go see for yourself. Thurso is a short drive away too for supplies with a Lidl and Tesco. The Castle Arms hotel in Mey was an unexpected find for dinner on our last night. It was delicious and a good selection of ales and dog friendly. The only negative was the weather, not too warm and far too windy, the heatwave didn’t quite make it to the Sutherland Peninsula. That didn’t dampen our spirits and we both thoroughly enjoyed our 6 night stay. The dogs certainly loved running on the beach and through the forest despite the weather.

Good location

Travelling the NC500 and stopping in laybys, we were so pleased to find this club site. Lovely location right by a sandy beach. As expected, the facilities are a good standard and kept very clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. We had a welcome shower and did our laundry. At 7am the next morning there was no queue so best to avoid peak times! Sadly the weather was appalling so had a very short walk on the beach. So happy to find a club site in such a remote location.

We will be back

Great location, fantastic beaches and walks along the 2 mile wide bay. John O'Groats, Ducanby Stacks and Dunnett Head are a short drive away. Visit the woods opposite, it's community-run with loads to see and much better than it looks from the road!
