This was stop 1 on our multi-stop tour from Lincolnshire to Scotland (and back) with two nights here after a three hour drive. Just off the A1 it is a very easy site to access but there is some traffic noise to be heard from the pitches because of this. This isn't too intrusive and is below the level of normal TV volume when in the caravan. The site is modern and spacious with nice large level pitches. The toilet/shower block is very clean and well maintained by the wardens who gave us a warm welcome on arrival. We have used the park and ride to Durham in the past but this time decided to walk over the A1 roundabout following the pathway suggested on the note from the information room. Not a problem getting there and a nice day exploring Durham but returning was a different story. Due to the trees screening the top of the slip road it was difficult to see traffic turning onto the A690 so it was a case of Stop, Look, Listen then sprint like Usain Bolt. Durham is well worth a visit but I'll drive to the park and ride next time! Summary: A great place to break a journey but nothing within walking distance so I'm not sure about an extended stay.
