We arrived on the opening day of 2016 and spent 3 nights. The site is quiet and pitches open onto woodland. The wardens were very helpful and pleasant. We had 2 different walks from the site, a one hour and a whole day. Both lovely. A meal in the local pub 'Two Sawyers' was excellent -really friendly family run outfit. The Hastings Country Park which you can walk to also has a good tea room.
Our Home from Home
The new wardens had a hard act to follow, but have more than met expectations, friendly and efficient. A wonderful place for dogs - we will be back soon to see the bluebells.
Chestnuts, bows and arrows at Fairlight Wood
Great if you like woodland. The site itself is nestled in woods and there are ample trails to walk and they felt really safe. Super opportunities for foraging berries, mushrooms ect at this time of year (late October). My 10 yr old Nephew and I made a bow and arrow from hazel coppice so I'd recommend this site for adventurous children. I've never seen so many sweet chestnuts, literally falling all around and the BBQ came in handy for roasting them. Plenty of space between pitches and very peaceful at night except for the resident hooting owl and crashing chestnuts. Two cracking pubs nearby within walking distance The Royal oak the furthest but better of the two. Staff were really friendly, helpful, laid back and humorous. A bit tricky to find but then again, most good things usually are!
Rye
We wanted a site close to the sea and Rye. A little difficult to find as we approached from a different route to that published by the CC. I am glad that we didn't have a large towed outfit as the access is tight. When we arrived we were very surprised, it was like arriving in an oasis from the Hobbit, very picturesque.
The staff were delightful giving us clear directions to our standing and also a dog walk which finished at a pleasant old fashioned pub (The Two Sawyers) which what appeared to be wholesome fare, although we had already made arrangements but will try the food in the future.
We will definitely be using this site again, unfortunately it was the last weekend before closing for the Winter. We be booking the first weekend in March.
Pleasant Surprise
Booked at the last minute for a stop over on route from Dover to Poole. What a pleasant surprise, small compact and and near to lovely walks. Lots to do in the area being near to Rye and Hastings. On this visit the staff were great and ever so friendly, some of the best we've met. looking forward to a return
Perfect for peace and quiet
If you like a small site which is quiet (no road noise), plenty of walks, lots of trees, this is for you.
Many places to visit including the ancient town of Rye (park in Station car park - cheapest and no height restrictions - check), Hastings, Winchelsea town and beach. I don't think the site is ideal for children due to lack of facilities, but if they love walking....
We pitched under a tree and found the acorns falling through the night were a problem - and the rain!
All in all I think the site is ideal for a short stay. Nice pubs and restaurants not far away - Beefeater about two miles.
Enjoy this clean and compact site with super wardens.
Peaceful site
A lovely peaceful site with no traffic noise. Very well kept and very clean. Good walks down to the coast and then either way to Hastings or Winchelsea.

You won't be disappointed!
This is a delightful, peaceful site, well managed with excellent facilities. Ideal for dog owners with extensive woodlands opposite the site entrance.
Ideally located to visit the historic towns of Hastings, Rye and Battle. Many local nature reserves and beaches to enjoy. One not to be missed!

Delightful
We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely site. It is in a lovely spot, in the woods but Pett is close by with 2 lovely pubs. Cycling is great too, and we went to Rye along a great paved cycle path from Winchelsea Beach and also as far as Camber Sands. The road up from Pett Level is very steep, (we walked up it) but everywhere else is easy for cycling.

Fairlight Wood Camp Site
A wonderful Little Site with helpful and caring wardens (Paul and Marie Turner). A pub within walking distance through the woods that sells very good food. An Aldi supermarket within about 3 miles down the road
