Our favourite site to visit

Neil and Caroline and their warmth, sense of humour and the efficient and helpful service and a high standard of upkeep on this site, make it the most wonderful place to stay. We managed to book a spontaneous day here as there had been a cancellation and Caroline contacted us immediately. We are relatively new camper van owners but have visited here on 6 occasions. Apart from the tranquil setting and the beautiful surrounding area, the 2 excellent pubs within walking ( one within staggering!) distance and other amenities in Pett, make it a great place to explore for a short or longer break. Thank you and we can’t wait to return.

Had the best week

On arrival met by the loveliest of wardens , nothing was too much trouble. Picked a great pitch shade in mornings sun in afternoon/evening. Lovely clean facilities. Great dog walk access from site and Guesling wood opposite site. Six min walk to two sawyers pubs through woods, had a lovely meal and great service. Loved Hastings country park for the views and cliff top walks. Looking forward to returning soon Alec Nic Izzy and Smudge

Week long stay in August

We had a lovely stay for a week in August. Having read the reviews we asked upon arrival for one of the sunnier pitches and were pointed in the right direction. We had plot 38 which was a hardstanding awning pitch. It was certainly big enough although I would add that the access road is quite narrow so reversing onto the plot was a bit tight, but if you have a mover you won't have any issues at all. The toilet block was very clean and the bins etc were regularly emptied and I saw the staff wiping down taps, drains etc at the severe points which is good to see. We liked the relaxed atmosphere of the site and the Wardens were very helpful and friendly. Make sure you read the arrival instructions re SatNavs as the road is tight and if you're not careful your SatNav might send you down some very narrow roads. The local pub is a five minute walk and well worth a visit, the food and service was great.

Peaceful site

Received one of the friendliest greetings ever from Warden Caroline. Site is down a narrow lane so care is needed arriving. Site is very enclosed with trees all round so if you like a wide open site with views then this isn’t for you. All pitches except 4 or 5 in the middle are under or near trees. Facilities kept very clean and are of good quality. Not on a bus route but apparently you can walk through to the village of Pett for a bus. The roads are narrow so not the safest for walking or cycling from the site. Lots of places to see in the area, Old Hastings, Rye, Winchelsea are all very pretty places with medieval buildings. Rye Harbour, if you can park, gives access to a walk out to the nature reserve. Dungeness is a fascinating landscape and well worth a visit. Parking for motor homes is tricky in the area - height barriers nearly everywhere. For Hastings, parking is possible on the sea front (4hour limit). We found a car park (free and no time limit) at the far end of St Leonard’s at Marina Fountain and took the bus (number 98 or 99) back into town. At Bexhill head for Galley Hill where there is on the road parking near the coastguard station. Sea front walking is flat and also good for cycling. Lots of places to visit from this peaceful site. Our visit ended with a really cheerful waving send-off from Caroline!

Lovely Campsite

Had a delightful stay at Fairlight Wood. It was so peaceful. Everything was pristine. Only downside was that we were in the middle of the site under trees so didnt get the sun. I would ask for a pitch that got the sun if i were to return. Highly recommend.

Fantastic Site

We have stayed on this site 4 times, every visit has been fantastic. The site is very well kept and the wardens are very friendly and the facilities are kept spotlessly clean. It is a very peaceful and quiet site which is perfect for us. We will certainly be back.

Peaceful and Quiet

A very peaceful and quiet little site. We were a bit concerned when we read about the 2 mile drive along narrow roads to get there but then realised that's only if you don't follow the directions! Fortunately we did and so there was only about 1/2 mile along a narrow road to the entrance. We were warmly welcomed by Caroline - and she also came out to say goodbye to us. What a great warden! We found Hastings wasn't motorhome friendly at all. The car parks - including Hastings Country Park - all had height barriers. Apparently there's parking towards Bexhill on the seafront but we didn't find that. We walked through the woods to the village and across fields to the shingle beach at Pett Level. A lovely walk but quite steep coming back. Apart from the beach there wasn't much there, so we sat on the beach for a while then walked back stopping at the Royal Oak for a well deserved drink in the garden! The facilities were clean and the wristband system seemed to be working well.

Perfect Site

Just returned from a ten night stay at this exceptional site. Our pitch was separated by hedgerow and backed by the woods so plenty of birdsong to enjoy. This is a small peaceful site with lots of walks to enjoy especially the one through the woods to the local pub. Unfortunately the peace was blighted on occasions by some inconsiderate dog owners who allowed their pets to yap away every time someone passed which I suppose is not the fault of the dog but the owners. The site is a credit to the wardens who keep the site at its best and are extremely friendly and helpful. Due to COVID restrictions the toilet and shower block are restricted but when we did take use of them there was never any queue so I guess most are using their own facilities. There is a beach nearby but for the less active it would be best to drive as there is a very steep hill to negotiate on the way back! Take the coast road to the small town of Rye which is very quaint with cobbled streets and a fine church to explore. Hastings is just a short drive and like many seaside resorts it looked a little tired but we found Bexhill on Sea a few more miles past Hastings to be a much better resort with the promenade being kept clean and inviting. All in all our stay at Fairlight was really enjoyable and we hope to return again in the future.

Don't follow sat nav.

Very peaceful site up to the the usual club standard. Neil and Caroline are excellent hosts. Pub through the woods serves great food. After being stuck in traffic for 2 hours, without thinking I followed the sat nav. What a hairaising white knuckle ride for about 3 miles (seemed like 30). Both mirrors touching trees, luckly only met 3 cars and all reversed for me to get through. Motto: Believe the book.
