Good base for exploring the area

Ferry Meadows is a large site separated by a road into 2 distinct areas. The West side is mainly hardstanding, set out in standard Club fashion. The East side is predominantly grass, arranged in a number of glades with generous sized pitches. Some of these have sunk with years of use and can be prone to flooding during heavy downpours. There is a booster system for tv, but this did not work on the bollard next to our pitch and looked like it had been broken for some time. The grass was quite long and we didn’t see any being cut during our stay. Also one of the staff chose Sunday morning when the site was packed to spray weedkiller around behind some of the units. As with most sites now the earliest arrival time is stated as being 1300 but we saw units arriving, often before 1200 and being allowed onto site. Access from the A1 is easy. We did not use the toilet facilities as they were limited due to covid. The now pretty standard (on club sites) system of using wrist bands was in place. However during our stay, particularly over the weekend people chose to ignore this. The site is right next to Nene Park and close to the river so campers are spoilt for choice when it comes to walking. With rabbits and squirrels running everywhere it’s doggie heaven. Peterborough is an hours leisurely stroll with it’s magnificent cathedral. There is a Tesco express within 20 minutes walk along traffic free paths. For walkers, dog owners, cyclists or anyone just wanting to relax in pleasant surroundings this site makes a good base for both short breaks or a longer holiday.
