what a lovely place

our first time with the club and site and couldn't wish for a better start to our time. Edgar and his wife are great hosts and make you feel very comfortable and welcome. They look after the site really well and are happy to help with anything you need or want to know. The facilities are spotless and really clean and warm. A handy laundry room helps if you are away for a longer period or have kids! the view across the bay and of the mountains in the distance is a great back drop to your stay. loved the local pub a short walk away, great food. a few more steps away is the Hive coffee shop serving great food and loads of wonderful home made cakes. loved this place so much that we have booked to go back in the summer.

Last outing of 2023

Having watched the havoc storm Babet was causing in Aberdeenshire ,Highland, Moray ,Perthshire and Fife our original plans had to change as we were initially heading for the Moray Firth for our last trip of 2023. We didn't want to go too far from home and it seemed that Dumfries and Galloway was a good place to go to avoid the Storm. Well......what a lucky change it turned our to be ! We chose Garlieston and what a find ! A beautiful little site, nestled in South West Scotland on the Solway Firth. A small beautifully maintained site with two fabulous local wardens Judith and Edgar, who were a mine of information. A site with stunning scenery, peaceful surroundings, nice local walks ,pub, fishing and not to many dogs. It is split into two halves. One half in a walled garden area and the other with stunning views of the hills and sea. Shower blocks a bit dated and only two showers per block but spotlessly clean and at this time of year not too busy. Not sure what it would be like in the height of season. We had a wonderful time there and would thoroughly recommend this little jewel in the Dumfries and Galloway countryside. We will definitely be back. Stunning !!

Garlieston

Excellent site over looking the bay and harbour. The new lay out of the pitches are a great improvement, but the toilet on the main site is really starting to show its age. The two night i was there there in mid October the floor was never dry. this maybe because there was no heating, the radiators were cold. Spoke to the male warden about how cold it was in there only to be told it was working and set at 20c and there was nothing he could do about it.

Lovely site

We love to stay at this site on our way to and from the ferry to N Ireland as it is very handy to Cairnryan and Stranraer. The wardens are very friendly and helpful and the sites are all very spacious and tidy. There are lovely walks along the shore beside the site. We got the bus to Wigtown this time to visit the amazing selection of bookshops, very interesting. The Harbour bar across the road has a great atmosphere and lovely reasonably priced food. Make sure to book in advance as it is very popular. A great site!

Used to be a great site but now terrible facilities.

Been a member for many, many, many years and this was one of the first ever sites we visited and probably our favourite but not any more. Just had 4 nights on the site and the facilities block on the harbour side is now awful, it clearly has not had a penny spent on it in all the years we`ve been visiting and the extra use it had after " staycations " hit us has seriously taken its toll. It is now way over priced and we will not be visiting it any more.

Great site, we had pitch overlooking the bay

What a lovely site, the warden had seen our Motorhome was longer than 7 meters and reserved us a pitch overlooking the bay as I’d missed the small print on the order confirmation so this was a pleasant surprise and perfect example of going above and beyond to provide great customer service. The site was well kept, grass cut short, plenty of stones on hardstanding and facilities were clean and kept tidy. There were some great walks from the site, a dog walk from site too. The harbour inn pub round the corner did lovely food very reasonable and has a beer garden too, it’s advisable to book a table at peak times. A visit to port Patrick and isle of Whithorn is well worth it if you have a car to get there. We’ll be returning.

Just wonderful

What an amazing site. Lovely friendly welcome from one of the nicest wardens we have ever come across. So helpful when we wanted a pitch next to our son and family. Thank you Judith. Some of the most powerful showers and so hot too. Great little washing up area. Location is super. We enjoyed the walks along the coast and the cycling at Glentool and Kirroughtree. Food in the pub was great and the ice creams at the Hive worth a visit too. We can recommend the butchers in Newton Stewart. The cafe at Port William has wonderful food as well as good sea views and is run as a fundraiser for the lifeboat.

Quiet site with beautiful view.

Garlieston is a lovely quiet village with plenty of walks.Harbour Inn serves Excellant quality food and staff are lovely. The campsite is one of the nicest and well looked after we have stayed. The wardens work exceptionally hard to keep it to a high standard. They are approachable and helpful. We both enjoyed our stay and the walks as we have 2 dogs.Plenty of room between pitches. The site was busy but quiet. We plan to return in the near future.
