Lovely Site Shame About Pitch Availability

we've visited this site a number of times now usually in September and love it. This year we decided to visit in October and whilst we still love the site and its location were slightly disappointed to see around two thirds of the pitches out of action. The wardens had decided to close the two top cul de sacs and remove pegs from a large number of pitches around the site in order to reseed them. We found this rather unfair as we pay the same membership fee as everyone else but because we chose to visit outside the peak time we are penalised as to the pitches we can take. Some of them had the marker moved forward which meant that if we had gone on one of those our outfit would have been on the road. Others had grass seed sown which was being eaten by pigeons!!. Surely this could be done once the site closes. On top of this 3 of the 8 toilets and 3 of the 7 washing cubicles in the ladies were also locked. To cap it all one of the female wardens was moaning that they had six outfits coming in on one day!!. I know it is out of season but come on caravan club treat us all in the same way or else reduce membership for those who only use sites out of the high season.

But how was the site other wise ?as this is supposed to be a review not a rant about what condition fellow members had left the site in,did you get a pitch?how long was the queue for the facilties?

Once the site closes, the wardens will not be there to reseed pitches or do anything else so they have to do the work when they can. Would reseeding work in November? I doubt it.

The pitches on this site constantly move in order for the ground to recover. It’s a necessity.

You paid less than you would have in peak season, you had a pitch and probably a choice of pitches. Frankly, I can’t see what you are moaning about. Just be glad that the wardens are managing the pitches so we can all benefit next season.

Did you speak to the wardens about your concerns? I’m sure they would have been happy to explain the reasons for their actions to you.

Agree with Tinwheeler reseeding needs to be done when the weather conditions are suitable and also the ground is still warm enough for the grass seed to grow. As site staff close the site at 12.00 noon on a Monday then usually leave the site early Friday not much time to do all end of season shutdown and on some sites the assistants leave a day before the wardens.
