Pleasant Bank Holiday Weekend

We stayed on this site over the May bank holiday weekend when it was very busy and the weather was gorgeous. It’s a site we have visited a couple of times in the past year as its close to home and ideal for a couple of nights away. Generally it’s a relaxing and quiet site, great for families to spend some quality time together and with some wonderful trees and a pizza van that visits on a Friday evening! And of course the resident owl! He is beautiful and you get regular glimpses of him from the trees or fence around the pond. The Wardens, Dawn and Carl, are a lovely friendly and welcoming couple who work hard to keep the site tidy and the facilities spotlessly clean. The cubicles are large with plenty of room in the shower area and benches and hooks in the dressing area. Water hot though water pressure not too good. Compared to other sites we have stayed on the site itself feels a bit crowded and cramped. The hardstanding pitches and a bit shabby and the grassed areas seem to be cut randomly, ie some areas had obviously been cut (albeit not very short) and other areas totally missed and quite long. Whilst I appreciate if grass is kept longer it wears better but with the bank holiday followed by school half term holidays the site was very busy and maybe the grass should have had more attention. A couple of gripes (sorry), whilst we were there the site was busy, however there were cars totally ignoring the one way system, visitors double parking alongside the caravans they were visiting and children playing ball games (has the clubs no ball games near pitches been relaxed?) and running and cycling across pitches. We noticed that since our last visit the rubbish bins have been centralised near the wardens office. As far as we saw there are other bins on site. Grafham Water Lake is close by and excellent for walking or cycling. I would suggest that if you are only going for a couple of days you take plenty of supplies if you don’t want to bother supermarket shopping further afield. The Community Shop (about 10-15 mins walk away though convenient, had limited stock, much easier to take enough so as not to worry about shopping. We do love this site and will definitely be back again. Thanks Dawn and Carl.
