SHOP ON SITE!

Well done to the Wardens for keeping the shop open - apparently the Club makes them pay for their own insurance etc which is why some site no longer have a shop. So please, do as I did, and enjoy the local produce on sale - Eccles Cakes, fresh milk & orange, scones etc - they even offer 2 Cream Scones & Jam if you fancy Afternoon Tea!!

A week in Hawes

The site is the usuall caravan & camper van standard. The place is ideal for walking and cycling from. The village is just a short walk away with lovely friendly pubs and tea rooms. The site is also next to a working farm so you do get noise from cows and sheep but you are in the countryside. I would highly recommend this site and will definitely be returning again and a big thank you to the wardens for the outstanding job they are doing at this site.

Superb Location - Facilities up to European Standards

Stayed 4 nights from 29/03/2023 and had been looking forward to doing so since 2000. Lovely airy site and the toilet/shower block as good as any we've experienced in Europe, and is meticulously clean. Excellent moho service area. Other reviews have complained about pitches not being level and whilst some used levellers, myself and our companions I didn't consider it necessary. Others mention the nearby moo-ing of cows at night in the adjacent farm which we think is hilarious. The twit-twoo-ing owls were a delight. Hawes is a lovely little town with a surprising choice of pubs/eateries and a visit to the Wensleydale Creamery is a must, as is the 29mtr waterfall which is accessed through the Green Dragon Inn (£4 per adult). If you visit the site be sure to scan across the top of the hillside and try an spot the two stone turrets, my wife and I hiked up to there and across the top in the howling wind and rain. Fantastic experience!

To echo the people who have posted reviews before, this is an admirable site and location.

We were lucky enough to be able to stay here for 17 nights, while doing a twelve month trip around the UK. The experience can only be described as exemplary in all aspects. A spotlessly clean environment, with excellent facilities. Having a drying room, for boots, jackets etc ,has to be appreciated. The capacity for all ranges of walks, even straight off site, will satisfy nearly all hikers. For eating out,in Hawes itself, then you have a plethora of choices. My personal favourite, has to be the Pantry Cafe/Restaurant on the main road.Best,no nonsense meals,at a very reasonable price! May i give a big shout for the wardens, particularly Matt, who helped with a plumbing issue in our motorhome.Thanks. Overall, would definitely return and recommend.

Two significant considerations

Plenty has been written about the layout and facilities, including the usual high level of service from wardens. For this review I propose to highlight two important aspects of the site - location within minutes walk of the delightful town of Hawes; and proximity to a variety of excellent rural walks. For Stephanie and I, who spent eight days over Christmas at the site, its location right on the edge of the fascinating town of Hawes, was a real plus. Here you can shop in traditional shops, visit the Creamery, and enjoy a multitude of pubs and cafes. As a Christmas venue it is unsurpassed here in the North of England. Additionally, being right on the Trans Pennine Trail, there are spectacular walks for all abilities, with delightful villages within easy reach. It is one of those sites where you can park up for the duration of your stay and enjoy getting out and about on foot. In the summer months there is the further benefit of a local bus service which gives access throughout the dale.

Expectations too high??

The welcome was warm. Handy to have two wardens do the check-in. Good example for all sites. The reception was never busy. We had heard a lot about this campground. All glowing stories. It was difficult to book a pitch. The location is also perfect. We found the pitches a bit cramped. It was not really nice to sit outside. You look either at your car or at the neighbors across the street. Luckily we were on the road every day. But again we encountered non-compliance with the rules. People who let their dogs loose at their pitch, saying "he is very obedient." Sure, but there are rules we obey. Direct neighbors across the street had two hysterical barking dogs with them that they could not control. To make matters worse, they got guests with another barker. The other neighbors thought, just like we did, that this was unacceptable. The guest said to me: "yes, dogs do bark." The warden immediately intervened forcefully. And guess what. Those people were not a member of the CC. It is incomprehensible that they managed to book for 10 days while we as CC members could not book the desired days. They apparently joined on the spot.

Superb site with immaculate facilities

Fantastic site located within easy walking distance of Hawes village and in the heart of beautiful countryside. Facilities were excellent and immaculately clean as ever. We can recommend walking from Hawes to Askrigg via the footpaths and catching the bus back. Our third visit to this amazing club site and not the last.

Excellent site and great onsite dog walk

Excellent site which is really convenient for walking into Hawes, with cafes and pubs and for great walks around area. But, wanted to mention the on site dog walk which, in my opinion has to be the best at CMC site? Really good for the quick walk/toileting with paths, plenty of bins and and great scenery! Well that is what my pouch said anyway😁. Also, Wardens great and pitches huge, with great facilities and nice and peaceful. We will be back, probably spring/autumn or winter, as too busy in summer?

One to visit again and again

We arrived at the site a little before 1p.m. and waited in a line to check in. I was surprised but happy to see two staff walking down the line checking us in to let us clear the road, a great start to our holiday. The site itself is clean and well kept with lots of Birds and rabbits around to keep you entertained. The major plus are that there are lots of walks around and a river for the dog to swim in, the village is a short walk away, there are many places to eat with lots of different cuisines and most of all, it is just so peaceful. We will definitely be back to Hawes when we start touring again next year, it's a marvellous base for visiting the dales or lakes and it is good for the soul to be amongst all of the nature and beauty.
