Lovely stay

Stayed here for a week after visiting Cornwall and what a lovely site, it was quite stressful finding a pitch on a busy Saturday afternoon it was difficult to see where the available pitches were.  But once set up we explored my son loved the pool which was kept at a lovely temperature the bar was nice we had a couple of meals and enjoyed them all our 9 year loved the kids entertainment especially mr wishy washy.  Beautiful views of the bay from the kids play field and well located for visiting Local attractions.  Would definitely recommend this site and will visit again.  Not the sites fault but the dustbin men really need to be told to slow down and stick to the 5 mile an hour rule maybe they need to learn the high 5!

Great site and a great holiday

I have just returned from a 2 week family holiday at Hillhead. (my wife and two kids 10 and 8) This site is great, it has stunning views of the rolling hills and also the sea as well as having some well laid out pitches.  Our pitch was in a private area with 3 other vans / motorhomes and we found it to offer a perfect mix of privacy as well as the opportunity to chat and socialise with our neighbors.  We found the facilities on the site to be good, and my kids loved the swimming pool on the days we stayed on the site, especially my 8 year who wanted to be in it regardless of whether the sun was shining or not. There is also an kids playground area as well as a huge field for kids (or adults) to play ball games, fly kites or pretty much just run around. There is also a good sized dog walking area that you can let you dog off the lead to have a good run around in.   We found the entertainment in the evening to be ok, one of the acts was a bit cheesy but that's was fine with us and the children's entertainer was great and my youngest loved it.   We only ate once in the bar but the food was as good as any pub we visited in the area.  In terms of facilities I found the shower and toilet area's to always be clean and bright with lots of natural light, however I agree with one of the other reviewers that there were times in the early morning that some of the toilet users clearly didnt have any thought for others that would be using the facilities after them.  One other thing I would mention is that this was one of the quietest sites I have stayed on, and despite it being very busy, there was times I wondered if anyone else was around. Especially in the morning (having stayed on sites in France and hearing children running around and shouting at 7am), there was times when I would be sitting outside at 9.30am having a cup of tea and there was not noise to be heard other than the birds and the occasional dog bark in the distance.  I think if we were to visit Devon again we would be more than happy to stay at Hillhead.

Nice family site

We have just arrived back from a lovely holiday at Hillhead. The site is great for families and has all the facilities you need for a relaxing stay. We loved the swimming pool (there are two pools - one shallow one for toddlers and infants and a bigger one for older and more capable swimmers). The bar/restaurant served decent pub grub and our daughter loved the external entertainers even if she found the rest a little repetitive (she is nine though!). The shop is arguably the best stocked on the site network! The site itself is lovely and we were lucky enough to get a pitch with a wonderful sea view - they were very sought after! The cleanliness of the site was good and the wardens obviously took great care in trying to keep things clean and neat during a busy period. It was a shame that some users of the toilet facilities didn't consider others and left them in a poor state - I suspect these were children but that isn't an excuse. On the two occasions I reported poor cleanliness the wardens jumped straight on it and the facilities were cleaned up immediately. People should be made aware of the efforts wardens put in to keeping things clean and tidy and it really isn't on when people fail to do the courteous thing and clean up after themselves. That aside, the rest of our stay was brilliant. The area is great to visit - lots of lovely countryside and everything under the sun to see and do. Well worth it. Thank you Caravan Club!

Great Site, Great Location

The wardens were very helpful. We had a wonderful pitch, ideal for our grandson who has autism. The weather could have been better (nothing the CC could do about that!).  The site was very busy and I do feel for the wardens who had to clean some rather less than savoury ladies toilets on occasions, so a big thank you to them for their hard work. Local Rockfish fish and chips good too.

Different!

We stayed here for 4 nights in July on our way to Cornwall. We managed to get a pitch with stunning sea views. Unfortunately the other side of the hedge was the football field and the constant kicking of balls became irritating. Midweek when the kids were back at school and this wouldn't have been a problem. The site was fine with bus stops outside the entrance. Everything was up to the usual Caravan Club standard but this is a big site and it was very busy. If you like peace and quiet, Hillhead probably won't suit you. Football noise aside an enjoyable stay.

Fabulous family holiday

This is our second visit to the site and my children are already planning next years visit. The pool and the football pitch is just great and well used. The atmosphere is lovely for families and we were all well catered for. The pitches are lovely and the privacy is good. The club house is lovely and the Sunday Carvery is recommended. The shop is well stocked and the site has a safe and secure feeling. My children felt confident enough to go to the shop for a morning paper daily. Thank you Hillhead for another great 2 weeks.

Lovely for the children

We stayed here last week, taking our two grandaughters. It was much better than expected - we usually go away out of season. The girls loved the pool and other facilities. Yes as others have said it is a little tight packed and can be very noisy but it is at the height of the season. To the reviewer who wants the hedges done away with - please no, they supply a lot of privacy, which is lovely. However, I must give full credit to the Wardens, oh my goodness what a difficult job on this site. Firstly it is clear that arrival time is after 12. We stopped in a layby to make sure we weren't early, we arrived just after 12 and found that we were 'parked' on the road as many caravans were already queuing at the gate. This is a dangerous situation but what are the Wardens to do - if they let people in early then everyone will keep arriving early, if they make people wait then there is a queue on a busy road, they cant win! Its very clear - the book in time is after 12 how hard is it! Full credit to these wardens, they manage this mayhem (caused by selfish members determined to get there early), keep the site lovely and still manage to be helpful and smile. Thank you.

Great for Families

This was our 1st time at this site and we chose it for the facilities which are great for kids. The site was clean and tidy and the wardens very helpful and friendly. There's a bus stop outside which was most convenient. The only issue was the wifi, having paid a yearly payment to the Caravan Club we just couldn't connect, very poor signal. Would definitely revisit this site as great for our family needs.
