Not sure if for me

This was my first visit to Hillhead. The only real negative for me was upon arrival we were left to find our own pitch which is normal, but the site is so tight that there were quite a few people including myself just going round and round and getting frustrated. I do feel that due to the sites layout and tight spaces the wardens should assist in getting to a suitable pitch. However This is a constructive criticism and should not take away from the excellent facilities and the hard work all the wardens put in to maintain it. Definitely a site for families and not for a peaceful break.

Places to see

Third time to Hillhead, easy to get there, well maintained  two toilet blocks plenty of room and clean. Wardens are friendly. Buses outside site go to Dartmouth, Brixam, Paighton, bus to Torquay from Paighton or ferry from Brixham to Torquay, just central for all. Club on site with a good dog area and you still part of club and entertainment. Plenty to do and see we will go back.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

What an absolute great site, stayed here for six nights. Kids enjoyed the swimming and football facilities, entertainment was enjoyable also. Toilet facilities were second to none, the bus service was ideal being at the front door. The warden staff were very friendly and took our needs into consideration allowing us to stay on a pitch that was ideal for access to facilities. Its the best caravan club site we have stayed at yet. Will certainly use this caravan site again and would highly recommend it to others.

ANOTHER GREAT STAY

Another great visit to this site (fourth year running) A minor hiccup on the way down with our tow car but this was soon sorted with the very helpful wardens recommending Brixham Garage who they use themselves due to this arrived at 18:30 but a couple of phone calls to them pre advising that we were running late, we were told that this was not a problem and thanked us for the communication, we had booked a serviced pitch and on arrival found that the wardens had pre allocated us a pitch knowing we were running late. The restraunt meals are OK (certainly not al a carte but do what they say on the tin if you cannot be bothered cooking maybe a little over priced). One negative was the good old English weather but this is one thing that even the wardens cannot put right. Overall another great stay and will be returning in the future. PS just to re-iterate that the wardens on this site are some of the best we have come across on the club network if not the best.

Another great holiday here

We spent 2 weeks here in July and as usual it was excellent. We had a fully serviced pitch which was very spacious and close to the swimming pool/bar complex. The facilities were always clean and tidy and the wardens do a great job considering the size of the site. The bar/restaurant are is very good with decent food at a reasonable price the entertainment at night is also ok (we loved the Neil Diamond tribute act he was fantastic). The site is big but is still able to retain that rural feel. There is plenty to do in the area a visit to Brixham is a must and I recomend the Rio Fish Restaurant who do great fish and chips. Torquay and Paington are also close by and are well worth a vist as is Dartmouth where you can take a river cruise. All in all a great site and we will returrn at some point in the future.

Fab Family Fun!

Our 4th visit to this site & we will return again. We travelled this time with our 14 year old Daughter, 10 & 5 year old Sons & all 3 loved the site - the pool, playground, games room - all a big hit. Facilities clean & such hard working wardens. We mailed a week prior to arrival to ensure we would be pitched suitably as we have a twin axle caravan without a motor mover & know from experience some pitches can be tight. On arrival we were greeted by a super male warden & had a choice of 5 pitches on the top field. First class service. Thank you to the wardens. Clubhouse food excellent & reasonably priced. Cannot comment on evening entertainment as did not use the clubhouse in the evening. Excellent base to explore the surrounding area. Great crabbing in Brixham (kids love it every time!); brilliant family day out at Woodlands (keeping the cost down taking our own food/drink); love the cliff railway at Babbacombe down to Oddicombe beach; Teignmouth front & beach is very family friendly with lots to entertain kids of all ages & picturesque too - the cliff walk to Dawlish is well worth doing whilst there; Paignton is very "English seaside" but lovely all the same. Wonderful family holiday in a fabulous location at a very family friendly site. Our only negative comment is fellow caravanners/motor homers...not all of us want to stay up & listen to you socialising outside or in your awnings until gone 11.30pm/midnight - some of us like a little peace & quiet especially when we have kids we are trying to get to sleep! Just a little consideration please! We are not party poopers at all but we need to appreciate that we all holiday differently & at that hour a little less noise please! That said, this did not spoil our holiday so please do not be put off - give Hillhead a try!

Great Hillhead!!

Just returned from 16 nights at this site which is our favourite on the network. The wardens work extremely hard to keep things running smoothly especially when the weather turns nasty. Another great stay a big thank you to Tina and Chris and all the staff - see you next year. Terry and Moyra (Pitch 117)

Hillhead

Access to this site is straight forward, but be sure to follow the club's directions. Checkin was both friendly and super efficient.  The wardens know their site and will direct you to the most suitable pitches.  Note that most slope slightly and levelling blocks will be required. Some complain that pitches are small, we did not find this to be the case, we had ample space for our caravan with full size awning and annex with space to park two cars.  Some of the pitches are simply huge. Two facility block were of a very high standard and never seemed pushed even with a full site. Be warned, the site is high on a hill and therefore it can get windy so make sure you are well pegged and strapped down. The site is huge, but if you choose your pitch carefully it won't appear that way. There is a well stocked shop, club house and restaurant with nice outdoor seating areas and a heated outdoor swimming pool, as well as an arcade and games room. Outdoors there is plenty of room to site around units and a large children s play area and games field is provided adjacent to the large fenced in dog walk. The site is a credit to the hard working team of wardens and was immaculate a all times. Note to the reviewer below.  Sorry if you felt that you were invaded.  I didn’t realise there were rules about having 6 adults on a pitch (incidentally it was just us and our grown up sons with their girlfriends).  We were all accommodated on the massive pitch 80, which the wardens allocated to us.  We offered to park the second car in the visitor car park but again the warden said that pitch 80 was big enough to accommodate our van, awning, annex as well as the cars.  The wind breaks were erected to stop our tethered dogs bothering the other 3 pitches in our cul de sac. We did not break any rules, paid in full for everything and respected our neighbors. Shame you didn’t with your incessant pipe smoking which polluted the air all around!

Great family friendly site

This site is clean and has good facilities. The pool, play park and evening entertainment mean you could just stay on the site with kids if you wanted to relax. Fresh rolls and croisants each morning in the shop made a lovely breakfast, but you have to be there at 8.30am. Only downside of the location was that you cannot walk or cycle to any of the local villages. Dartmouth, Brixham and Paignton are all close and accessible by bus or a short drive but there are no footpaths from the site and the hills to both Kingswear (Dartmouth) and Brixham are too steep to cycle comfortably. I found out the hard way and would not recommend the cycle up either hill to anyone!

Just happy

Nice site, facilities clean. Good social club with varied turns on (I won the music quiz, check me out!) and a decent shop. The site is a bit exposed however and as it is on the top of the hill, the July low pressure systems really clagged in and we were beset with mizzle, wind and poor viz throughout our stay. Dartmouth and Brixham well within reach. The nearest beach - Scabbacombe Sands is a bit of a search/walk mind but is stunning. Staff very helpful and friendly. Shame about the weather! :)
