This was our first visit the the Knaresborough site and we thought it was super- well laid out, immaculately kept, very friendly and helpful wardens and the dog walk was brilliant - plenty of room for our dog to run around but also an actual walk round the outside and plenty of bins for dog waste - the only thing it lacked was some sanitiser when you came out of the gate following opening and closing the catch which everyone else has touched however there are plenty of sanitisers elsewhere. It was great that there was a dog wash which doubled as a bike wash! Having asked for advice on directions on the CAMC Members Facebook page we came along the A59 from Skipton then took the A61 to Ripley and then A6165 and it was an easy journey. People had commented on the "wall of death" coming out of Knaresborough so we were pleased to have been able to avoid that! We walked into Knaresborough along the road and found it very busy so actually caught the bus back - they’re only every 2 hours and 2 singles cost £6.60 so not cheap. We opted to walk in to town via the Nidd Gorge next time which was lovely - steep in places and much longer. The Lavender Tea Rooms in the Market Place was lovely and a great place to watch the world go by and listen to the Town Crier. It's only a few minutes walk to the castle ruins and Bebra Gardens where you can see the famous viaduct. There's some lovely old buildings and narrow streets to wander through - we can recommend the meat from Huttons Butchers in Castlegate. We thought The Wanderer bar and bistro was fabulous- we had drinks there twice and a takeaway Sunday roast followed by desserts as well as eating in one night with friends. The food and drink were excellent and the staff all really friendly and efficient. We would definitely recommend it but it isn't open every day so check in advance. You can take dogs into the outside area but not into the actual restaurant. There was just one covered table outside so it was a bit limited if you needed to sit outside with a dog in poor weather. We did find there was quite a bit of road noise despite the tall trees next to the road and there seemed to be a lot of traffic at all times of day and night however we did get used to it and it wouldn't put us off going again. As well as going in to Knaresborough a couple of times, we also visited Swinsty and Fewston Reservoirs, Helmsley, Sutton Bank National Park, Grimwith Reservoir and Pateley Bridge. It is a beautiful area and well worth exploring further afield.
