Peaceful

Our first time out with a motorhome and first time on a CAMC site. Very clean and very quiet stay, no issues at all. The toilet/shower block, as well as the dishwashing area, was pretty much immaculate although you can't escape the fact some people just don't care what state they leave a facility in. As it was a trip to test our motorhome out we were pretty close to home so the local attractions are familiar but I do like the area very much. Chirk is pretty small but some shops so all essentials available; a couple of pubs too.

Pleased to be back again!

This is a superb site! We stayed here few times before "Lockdown" and the recent closure for the rebuilding work. We were a little shocked to follow two caravans on to the site and to be told there were three pitches left! Good fortune smiled on us because the one remaining pitch was away from some very noisy people. We just had some "gawpers" - people who sit by their vans facing outwards watching every move made by the neighbours. The new facilities block is first class, with no need to close it all for cleaning as half the block can be closed with the other half remaining open. It was disappointing to see the state in which a few people left the toilets and we felt sorry for the staff who had to deal with it. Children riding very fast around on their bikes were a menace, but after the weekend the whole site was much quieter and more to our liking. Chirk Castle (National Trust) is a good visit and there is an alternative route from the A5 by Chirk Marina to the entrance which is better for a motorhome. Erdigg (National Trust) near Wrexham is also a good day out. The Industrial Archaeology at Chirk Aqueduct and at Pontcysyllte Aqueduct are not to be missed. Caffi Wylfa at Chirk by the aqueduct is excellent.

Great Location

Very clean and tidy site. The recent upgrade investment has been well worth it with excellent facilities. My only slightly negative comment would be that as on many serviced pitches the waste water drain point is uphill so you always have a waste pipe of dirty water waiting to be flushed away by the next load. The site is in a great location. Walking to Chirk castle is a must and there are several other NT properties within easy reach. Langollen and the horseshoes falls is also well worth the visit. Plenty of good walks along the Chirk canal but take a torch to go through the tunnel.

Our favourite

Visited again the 1st week in May and great as usual. Thought I would comment that the ‘fast track’ worked fine, albeit I was delinquent in speedily texting my pitch number! Will remember next time!! As ever, first class, friendly wardens. Thank you.

Disappointing

We decided to stay at this site on our way back from North Wales. The site is pleasant enough but it is far from perfect as many of the reviews seem to suggest. Firstly despite the recent refurbishment Wi-Fi is still not available. Secondly the TV reception is poor. Unlike most other sites there is not even the option to boost the signal with an external aerial point as these are not available on the EHU. Thirdly many of the pitches are located quite a distance from the nearest EHU so that our cable, which we have used in dozens of other sites without difficulty, was too short. It was clear that others had the same problem as we witnessed vans driving onto pitches and then having to move off to another pitch. When I pointed this out to the wardens they denied that there was a problem which given our observations was clearly not the case. Finally and probably most significant is that the site is located adjacent to an industrial complex causing both noise and environmental pollution. The noise from the complex is audible on some pitches throughout the night. In summary this site is fine but it does have some significant drawbacks and I think a sense of proportionality necessary as there are far better sites than this.

Another lovely stay

The site is so well organised (apologies for accidently running over a just repaired kerb) and the facilities are excellent. It is also very convenient for Chirk Castle, transport links to Wrexham, Chester, Shrewsbury, Llangollen, walks and bike riding (particularly along the canal). Easy to find too!

A cracking site

We stayed several nights here late March. Despite the lousy weather the site was pretty full but it didn’t feel crowded as the pitches are well spaced out. The fully serviced pitch we’d booked was excellent and in good order. The pitch was large and came complete with picnic table and brick BBQ area (not used due to weather but a boon when it’s warmer and sunny). The recently refurbished facilities were the very best and carefully split so that even when cleaning was taking place facilities were still available. Add in welcoming and friendly staff and you have a perfect site. As for Chirk itself it’s a lovely place with lots to see locally with good pubs & restaurants.

Excellent Site

We stayed here for a week 14th to 21st March 2023. We loved the whole experience. The renovations to the site are fantastic. The shower block has underfloor heating, is tastefully decorated and there is a divider to close off part of the shower block so there are facilities available during cleaning times. The staff are friendly and welcoming. They work hard to keep the site looking perfect. Electric car charging points are available. A lovely children's paly area near the amenities block. A nice walk into Chirk were there is a butchers and greengrocers, both are excellent. The Teddy Bears Tearooms are great for a meal, afternoon teas or just a coffee. The Tearooms have a knitting wool shop attached and the selection of wools is huge. I wasn't able to resist buying some. There are walks along the Llangollen Aqueduct with lovely view. Chirk station is close by with regular trains to Chester. All in all a really perfect spot. We will certainly be back.

A Really Good Location

We had never stayed at this site and we were looking for a stopping point on our way to Mt Snowdon. What a delightful find this was. Easily accessible, well designed, very modern, all hardstanding and in such a brilliant location for NT Chirk Castle, Chirk Aquaduct and Tunnel, Pontcysyllte Aquaduct and Llangollen etc. We stayed in late March and had a superb hardstanding pitch with everything we needed close by. For those, like us, with a motorhome there are two very good corner type Spar shops in Chirk, a Catholic Church and miles of towpath walking and exploring. I cannot fault this site, it was virtually full and very quiet in late March. We will return. It is also well placed just off the A5 if you are heading to North Wales, or to spend time in this very attractive part of Wales. Our satellite and Smarty SIM cover for broadband was all very good.

Flagship Site

An attractive site with good size pitches and plenty to do without driving anywhere. Excellent rail and bus links, walking and cycling along the Shropshire Union Canal and NT Chirk Castle on the doorstep. We are already planning what we are going to do when we revisit.
