Fabulous site

We arrived on Friday and the nearby farm had an incident with emergency vehicles needing the narrow lane clear of vans. Despite this being a rare incident, this did not phase the staff here. Someone was posted at the bottom of the lane directing us where to park and informing us of what was happening. When we were allowed on site, staff swiftly dealt with the new arrivals with a friendly face and a common sense approach "get pitched up and come and square up in the morning". Smiling throughout what was probably a hell of a day for them. They were on hand to help us park and so helpful throughout our stay and lovely with our children. They allowed us to stay later on the Sunday as the kids wanted to visit Bolton castle and it had been shut for a wedding the day before. Really helpful staff. Fabulous clean site, hot water everywhere which was brilliant and great location. I have rated it less for families as no playground and seemed tailored for more adults. However, we went out of season and the kids were given a nature trail leaflet designed with kids in mind. So, maybe in the holidays, it may have more young people bounding around. A firm favourite for another visit. Thank you

The most helpful wardens - enjoyable weekend away

Having just returned from a weekend stay at this site I have to say I couldn't fault it at all. The wardens were very friendly and extremely helpful. We arrived late Friday and was recommended a pitch which got the sun all day ( there weren't many pitches to choose from) and we went straight to pitch and set up - she was right. On departure we asked if we could stay later than 12 as the weather was glorious. No problem - the wardens even went out of their way to make sure no incoming caravans were coming down the narrow winding exit/ entry road with one of them going to the top and radioing back to office to say all clear. We didn't want to leave! The shower block was spotless with plenty of hot water. Loved the friendly ducks - you walk out your caravan and had ducks following you around like they are your best friends! Short walk to the pheasant pub and lovely walk into leyburn with many shops and pubs ( amazed tho a lot of shops didn't let dogs in which is unusual for the yorkshire dales). We will definitely be back to visit as we enjoyed our stay and there's plenty more places to visit and see. Thank you it's so good to have friendly wardens helping you.

Good site with helpful wardens

We arrived in July on a very hot day. The warden advised us a certain place under the trees and after we looked around we decided that this was indeed the best place for us. In the morning we were delighted with a visit from ducks and a peacock. As stated by others, the access road is quite narrow and you have a bad overview of oncoming traffic. That does not feel so comfortable but was fortunately not a problem for us.

A tour of the Dales

We stayed here last Saturday during our three night tour of the Dales (staying at each of the clubs Dales sites).  The wardens were super friendly and made us feel very welcome. The site itself with it being in a old quarry is a bit twisty and we got a bit lost trying to find one of the few spare pitches! Once you get to grips with the site (I was worried I might get lost going to the loo at night!) it is fine.  Touches are a must. The toilet block is on the old side but the showers were nice and powerful.  There were quite a few insects / wasps in the ladies as I don't think there was any screens on the windows.  Once we become familiar with the site we quite liked it although I don't fancy staying here in the rain!

Very nice site

Lovely site clean and tidy and the staff very helpfull. Loads of things to do around and about this location. If I had one negative point it would be that it doesn't have a separate exit and entry road could be tricky if one coming one way and one coming the other as someone would have to reverse and the road isn't very wide.

Terrific site in former quarry, - with lots of ducks and rabbits!

We really enjoyed our stay at this site. Very welcoming, cheerful wardens...just one toilets/shower block but easily accessible for all (but I did 'miss' the privacy cubicles, but no matter)...terrific setting in a former quarry...a good pub with friendly landlord just outside the site...and very close to Leyburn which has lots of pubs/cafes/restaurants plus a lovely walk to the Shawlsand good bus service to Richmond and Hawes. We were also very lucky with the weather, - torrential rain one night (great to lie in the van with it lashing down on the roof) but very warm and sunny daytimes. This is a truly lovely part of the country and we were very relaxed on this site (we're still novice campers), wish we could have stayed longer. We will hope to return next spring.

One of my Favourites

Well we have stayed at site about half a dozen times ..popular location and ideal for getting out and about. took our 11 year old niece this time as she wanted to see the wildlife ,and there is plenty. places like Richmond are easy reach..Middleham is a worthy visit ..get there about 7.00am to see the race horses going onto the moor .the "Gallops" wll worth getting up early for , and the jockeys and trainers are so polite ..good mornings all round . Since our last visit the site wardens have changed ..always a great welcome from them ..but great news the new wardens and assistant wardens ..gave such a great welcome indeed I was impressed ... it sets a really good atmosphere for your stay spoke to the assistant wardens at the pot wash ..it was their first posting .. only been wardens for 4 weeks..great to see them around the site ,busy keeping everything clean and tidy and improving the pitch area's well worth a visit .

Late booking

We were surprised to find there was late availability for here over an August weekend. Arrived early despite stopping en route to delay arrival. Nearly caught out as there is a single track approach road and there was a very late departure. As we were in a small Motorhome we had no problem in a short reverse to the tent area to allow the caravan to leave. Moral is, take note of the instructions! Very friendly helpful wardens asked what we wanted from a pitch and directed us to a few options that suited us.  Easy roadside walk to Leyburn although a noisy busy road. Pleasant optional walk via country lane and fields also to Leyburn.  Local pub does not open till 6pm in the evening even in August and does not serve food. What a waste of potential income particularly with their own caravan site and several others nearby.  This was our first visit to this site and found it OK. As it is not a "full" Caravan Club site it is not totally up to their normal standard as regards the toilet block but still acceptable.  Overall a good site.

Lovely secluded friendly site

Booked for three nights at short notice and we very surprised at the friendliness of the staff and the layout of the pitches on site. A lot of attention from the Wardens to give us a pitch which suited our needs and for being so flexible in amending our booking based on the length of our Motorhome.  Lots of wildlife with baby ducks, coots and Gerald the Peacock in a little oasis in Yorkshire. Easy walk of about a mile into Leyburn along the footpath on the main road past the chocolate factory, garden centre and auction rooms. Also a nice walk along the top of the site on country paths into Leyburn. Good access routes to explore Wensleydale and Yorkshire and a wealth of detail is available in the information room. Lovely to see the Wensleydale Heritage railway running on the edge of the site, not only steam trains but classic Diesel engines as well, about three times a day and not much of a disturbance. Footpath crosses the railway line onto the main road and the Pheasant Inn to your left. Classic quaint country boozer that does not serve food, so be prepared if you arrive late you will not be able to pop to the pub for a bite to eat. Overall a lovely three days and we will be back. Well done to the Wardens for keeping such a lovely site.
