We will be back

The managed site has facilities up to the normal CC standard. Where this site exceeds is with the location - 1mile from Leyburn on a decent roadside footpath, at the foot of stunning countryside, steam trains running past the other side of the hedge, and wardens who are always smiling and friendly. There is plenty of character (and characters) onsite.

A wonderful week away

This was our first time on a Caravan Club site as new members. As they say, first impressions do count! The wardens on site were fantastic, welcoming and friendly. Phil kindly brought over some blocks to help level the van without us even asking and we found out he was originally from our neck of the woods! The site itself is a beautiful hidden gem, clean and well looked after. Our daughter loved feeding the ducks, of which bird seed was available from the on site shop £1 a bag. The facilities were excellent, plenty showers and toilets. The only drawback for some was no wifi but to us, it meant no distractions on holiday. We would highly recommend people visit this site, you certainly won't be disappointed. We can't wait to return!

Great Area to visit.

This is a well kept, very pleasant site with welcoming staff. There is a pub just off site, The Pheasant, which is old & quaint. The Wensleydale railway runs across the bottom of the site (no problem) & well worth a ride; trying starting at Redmire for a full line ride. With regards to the site, unfortunately it does not have Wi-fi which could be a problem for today's younger generation (which is why it has a 3 for families) plus there is no hair dryer in the gents which is usually a feature of Caravan Club sites. Wensleydale is a lovely area with plenty of good walking; try Middleham Gallops but avoid the Black Bull in centre of village, not friendly at all! Coverdale Bridge just down the road is best in area with many CAMRA awards. Then of course there are the nearby castles, Middleham, Richmond, Bolton. Lots of varied things to do.

Peacock early call

Excellent weekend on brilliant site. Site great because of the irregular way it is laid out not regimental. Good facilities with excellent showers. Plenty of rabbits and ducks on site plus the lonesome peacock giving the early morning call. Brilliant wardens a usual. Weather really good and plenty to do in the area some really good walks.

August

We spent a relaxing week at Lower Wensleydale, watching and feeding ducks and a peacock (a sad looking peacock, I might add), seeing so many rabbits, hearing the steam train pass by, quite idyllic for us. The wardens were brilliant, even when there was an emergency with the sewage system, cool calm and collected. The toilet block may be due for a refurbishment soon but was kept soooo clean by the wardens even when full over the weekend. Beautiful area for walking, even in the drizzle, some good cafes and pubs for food in the area. Make sure to try the Yorkshire Tea party at Wensley, Fabulous. A visit to The White Rose Candle workshop is a must, support the small local businesses for buying gifts. A return visit we shall certainly be making.

And the steam railway runs right beside it

We stayed only one night and would rate the site as perfectly clean and politely run, but one of us found it a bit cramped and another disliked the long distance walk between our allotted place and the wash-block. That's nuisance in the middle of a rainy night. Why only one block? It could do with another, and why no cubicles for the men and boys to shave, wash or tooth-clean in?  We've been in better sites for the same money, but the people who ran it were nice folk, the ducks bold and curious, the rabbits numberless and having the train chug and rattle by was a bonus.

Peaceful Tucked Away Haven

We booked the site at short notice for three nights and how lucky were we! Having a motorhome we always try to find sites within walking distance of a town or village and with a local bus service nearby - both of which this site has. The site itself is set within a disused quarry so is on lots of different levels which makes it far more interesting than a the usual flat field. We had no problems at all with tv reception and were able to log on to our mobile internet whenever we wished. We found the wardens very helpful and considering the type of site did a very good job keeping it tidy. With all the trees and shrubs around it must be a continuous job keeping them under control during the growing season! As for the toilet block it isn't the most modern of buildings but is certainly kept very clean and had all the facilities required. The ducks, rabbits and peacock make for entertaining viewing when on site! Thank you Lower Wensleydale for a truly relaxing stay. We will definite return!

Beautiful, quiet site with excellent facilities - but no Wifi. :(

This is a fantastic site, absolutely beautiful with really nice pitches (gravel pads on most of them). There is a plethora of lovely ducks, rabbits, and a resident peacock that make the site even more interesting. Its excellent location makes day trips to the rest of Yorkshire (and north, to Durham) easy - while there we visited Bolton Abbey, Haworth, Hawes, Darlington, and a few other places in between. The toilets and showers were kept spotless, the dishwashing facility was fine, and the managers were responsive, nice, and seem to run the place well. It's quiet, there weren't any loud children running about, we took our cats and they really enjoyed watching the other little animals around the site. The ONLY thing that lets the site down is the complete absence of wifi, which meant I had to use the three bars of intermittent cellular service I was able to get, which cost me a few Gb over the four days we stayed. If it just had Wifi it would be the PERFECT place! Even without it, though, it is the most beautiful site we've ever stayed at, and we will absolutely be back. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
