Autumn break

We’ve just returned from a 6 night break at this lovely site. You can book hardstandings, and pitches are allocated by the staff. Our’s was south facing, surrounded by grass, and bordered with trees behind, and a hedge to one side. As we were staying a few nights, we decided to put up our porch awning. It was surprisingly easy to knock the pegs into the surface, unlike on some hardstandings. At this time of year there were lots of empty pitches, so we had a quiet stay. Access from the road is easy, and there’s no single track roads to negotiate. It was possible to hear some road noise during the day. A torch is essential if walking around the site at night as there’s no lighting. Facilities are very clean, but there is a charge of 20p to use the hairdrier, so you need to take change or use your own. The showers are the push button variety, and the shower heads are fixed, so it’s nigh on impossible to shower without getting your hair wet. On the plus side, the water was comfortably warm, but not too hot. The shop looked well stocked with both general and caravanning essentials. We used the cafe for a cooked breakfast on our first morning, but didn’t feel inspired by the evening menu. We had a lovely meal at the nearby “Bunch of Carrots” pub one evening. The excellent carvery is served 7 days a week (we enjoyed it very much), and the main menu looked good. We were very lucky with the weather and, all in all, we enjoyed our stay at Lucksall very much.
