Small site in a pretty village

We spent 3 nights here in June. This is a small, affiliated site in a pretty village. We found the facilities clean and acceptable but perhaps in need of updating. Most pitches are in the area near reception with others a little higher up with good views and adjacent to the dog walking path. One of the wardens suggested a near bye playing field could be used to give our dog a run off the lead - much appreciated. The village pub, The Castle Inn, is dog friendly and we enjoyed a good meal here. There is a very nice garden to the rear but if you want to eat inside with your dog it would be a good idea to book, and ask for a table in the bar if possible. While staying here we visited Lydford Gorge and were very impressed. It is a National Trust Property and fortunately we are members, as the entrance fees are £9.40 per adult (plus an optional £1 gift aid). Although I think this is a lot to charge I have to say we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We spent 2 or 3 hours walking around the gorge, saw brown trout and grey wagtails, had lunch in the café, browsed the shop and came away happy. On leaving this site we realised we had neglected the walk from Lydford to Okehampton - something to come back for.
