Good for families

Not for us

We were redirected to their booking system through the CAMC website and paid a deposit. A couple of days later we received an email from the warden there asking for full payment as it would be very busy and that there would be stand in wardens during our stay. But on our arrival we realised that it was a site catering for mainly seasonal campers and therefore there was no need to expedite our arrival on pitch as there were very few people actually arriving! I asked where the motorhome point was and we were directed to a standpipe in the corner of the site under which was placed a wooden board. I have no idea if this was the 'drive over drain', and we were not about to test its capabilities. Furthermore the standpipe couldn't be accessed once the pitch next to it was taken. As regards other facilities, although clean, the bathrooms lacked space in the shower cubicles and were insufficient in number. I asked if it would be possible for my brother to briefly come on site the following day as he and his wife were picking us up for lunch. There was no where outside where he could safely park. We only have a motorhome so there was space besides our unit. Many caravans there had two parked vehicles and a large awning, and you could see visitors arriving and being let in by the people they were visiting. However I was told that my brother would have to park on the road outside. All day people were coming and going, visiting other units and bringing extra vehicles onto the site. Finally, the evening before we were due to leave the warden came and asked if we could "leave very early". When asked why he said there had been "a glitch", mentioning access problems due to a race meeting the next afternoon. This meant we had to find somewhere to go for a few hours before we could arrive at our next site (ours is not a small motorhome and so unscheduled parking up can be problematic) . Additionally nothing had been mentioned when I rang to make the full payment. They had taken our booking and our money but obviously chose not to tell us that we would be expected to leave 'very early'. We were given very different treatment to their seasonal pitch campers and we object to having our stay curtailed for their convenience. If access is a problem on race days, then they should not take bookings over that period. I explained the following morning that we were unhappy on several counts and would be making a complaint to CAMC. When it's stated that it is a CAMC Affiliated Site, you expect standards, rules and regulations to be on a par with the CAMC. If it's not, then it should simply be removed from the campsite register. However CAMC have merely 'passed the buck' to Market Rasen. Apparently they have no censure over them and telling the affiliated campsite of concerns is the extent of their involvement. Maybe they shouldn't be seen to be endorsing them then!

Gosh, had almost booked a short break here, will not be, having read this extensive review. Have to agree on the point of treatment being very different if you happen to land on a site with seasonal pitches as we have encountered this at Kings Lynn. Not sure what it is about this difference and why it occurs but it really spoils a holiday and makes for a very uncomfortable feeling.
