One of our goto sites!

Despite being only 60 miles away it's one of out favourite sites, especially for the first run of the year when checking the van out, plenty of store such as B&Q and Halfords in Galashiels for any DiY fixes, Site itself is well laid out with a pretty good dog walk on site. Facilities are the usual CAMC standard and kept immaculate. Locally its literally 200yds from front gate to a well stocked Coop, another 100yds and you are in the town centre with a good selection of butchers and bakers and an awesome charity shop!! (lets say it reflects the wealth of the area) There is a superb river walk that brings you up by the Abbey and into town centre - around 3mls. Galashiels is only 7 mls away with a great selection of big and local shops - Tesco, Asda, Pets at Home, BnQ, Halfords etc

Great Location in Town

The site is right in the middle of Melrose, so an easy walk to the Abbey (under renovation at the moment) and a couple of associated gardens which open in April. A short stroll has you on the riverbank, and there is a supermarket and a few pubs and restaurants right outside. The rugby club is just across the road. Wardens were friendly and welcoming, and the facilities were up to the usual club standards, although only 4 W.C. for quite a few vans. I would book an awning pitch if I went again as there are only a few without and they are located in a big tarmac area behind the admin block.

Great location and layout

Great stay. Location is fab and pitches well laid out. Definitely recommend. Only criticism was that when I was washing up (which is in an outdoor area) someone came out of the chemical toilet disposal room and I got a terrible smell from it!

Excellent Site

Well located site midway between Edinburgh and Newcastle in lovely borders town. 100 yards to bustling High Street with cafes, pubs, eateries in abundance. 2 small but well stocked supermarkets in easy walking distance. Lots of walks from site with excellent walking guide to purchase available from site shop. Very dog friendly locality, feels very welcoming. One of our favourite sites.

Not reviewed in a long time.

This is a site that we use a lot, mostly at weekends because it only takes about an hour for us to get there. We love it here being right in the town centre you have everything you need at hand, there are plenty of places to eat and have a drink if that's what you like. You have a supermarket right on your doorstep to get provisions. There are lots of good walks whatever direction you go in when you leave the site. Our last weekend for this year was 2nd/3rd of December, the wardens on were Mark & Sam who were very friendly/chatty. Mark had his work cut out trying to keep the water pipes flowing as had frozen up due to low temperatures. We have always found the wardens approachable which ever ones have been on duty, the permanent or relief.

Excellent Site

This is a yearly visit for us which we have done for seven years except for covid. We park up and don't really have to move again. Everything you need is close by. The butchers and bakers are excellent, dog friendly pub and a co-op just a short walk from the site. Great walks to the River Tweed for the dog and our daily exercise. The site as people have already commented about the toilet block needs a little refurbishing but it is clean. The Wardens Mark and Sam are really nice and friendly. Mark had his work cut out with the weather conditions. He constantly battled to keep the service areas running, keeping the site gritted and he did it all with a smile. I would definitely recommend this site.

First trip to the Scottish Borders

My stay at this site was 3 nights from the 3/10/23, as part of a Roadtrip I’m doing with my dogs. I chose the site because of how it fitted into the road trip but must confess wasn’t expecting a great deal due to many of the negative points throughout lots of reviews. Yes there is noise from the school but only during “playtimes” and not really a problem to me. I also would not consider this as a family site either. The other negative that always comes up is the facilities block and I would certainly agree. They are kept as clean as possible but they are no better than, at best, a 3 star facility. Screws and many fitments missing, the overall look and feel is “very tired”. An example, in the men’s facilities there are 2 handbasins to use after visiting the toilet - they are so small you cannot actually wash your hands in them! The facilities block is well beyond the need for a total refurbishment, however there in lies the Clubs problem. Clearly this is a popular year round site and to do such a refurb may need the site closed for many months - financially does the Club want to “take the hit” of lost revenue? However, the positives. Melrose is a lovely Border town with a variety of coffee shops and eating establishments as well as other shops. Lovely Abbey with lots of significant Scottish History within. A fabulous, practically flat, circular walk incorporating the glorious River Tweed. You can also extend the walk into going either side of the River for as far as you wish. A well sized Co-op store practically at the entrance to the site. Also a “big up” to the girls who run “Coffee Inc” from a converted horsebox at the entrance to Melrose RFC, serving freshly brewed coffee and some homemade “treats”, ideal at the end of your walk 👍

Best Scottish site by far (in our opinion)

Fantastic location right in the centre of Melrose. The town is stunning and plenty of local eateries that are also dog friendly. Local walks along the lovely River Tweed are the prettiest you’re going to get anywhere. Site management are well informed and very flexible in making your stay 100% the best you’re going to get from C&MHC, they even check your size of unit on your booking to match you with a suitable plot. The only down side I can possibly think of is lack of availability as this site is prime and not massive so if you are going to book - do it quick!

cycle route suggestions

I doubt it would be helpful to repeat all the good things about this site, especially in relation to its convenience for Melrose, which I and many other reviewers have reported in the past. I hope it may be more helpful if I focus on cycling from the site. (I'll cover running – or walking – in a later review following another visit next month.) I'll restrict myself to two road cycling routes I cycled during a rather warm four night recent stay. The first is only 15 miles, albeit with a long uphill at the start, the route for which can be found here: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/193596819 For a longer route (39 miles), also with a long uphill near the start, see: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/132635482 Just two suggestions which I hope someone may find helpful.
