Good for families

Always excellent

9 day stay at the beginning of September. Extremely welcoming and friendly wardens. Site is always busy, and rarely not full, so early booking recommended. Facilities are always immaculate. Loads of walks from the site, and we highly recommend a trip to the local charity shop on the left just down from the site, which stocks a book on local walks from Melrose (extracts can be seen in the info room). This has some lovely walks along the Tweed or up into the Eldon Hills. As everyone has said, the site is on the edge of the town, opposite the historic rugby club. The are plenty of pubs and eateries, but the Kings stood out for us this trip, being under new ownership since our last visit. Very friendly with excellent beer and food. The only slight annoyance was that balls were frequently kicked over the hedge from the adjacent school field, on occasion bouncing off outfits. We are not talking beachballs here, and the Club should perhaps negotiate with the school to erect netting along the hedge to prevent this. During our stay it was pretty much a daily occurrence. There is also some inevitable noise at playtimes and PE sessions, plus some noise from the adjacent recycling bins in the car park. Overall however, this is always a very good site, and we will be returning.
