Had a frosty greeting as I received an email telling me I’d receive a call the day before our arrival to take payment over the phone and when you arrive to stay in your car. Never received a call and we stayed in the car for 10 minutes then eventually went in to reception, said I was told to stay in the car and the response was “I’ve been in and out all day n I’m fed up”. Wow. The lady said did you not read your email? I said yes I did thank you and it told me to stay in the car!
The site is pretty good. Very clean and tidy and well looked after. Facilities were good, even though not all were open due to Corvid.
The site is NOT peaceful, it’s a stones throw from the busy A1 so there is a constant buzz of cars and lorries passing.
You are allocated a pitch which was ok for us as we got a relatively good spot but their did seem to be some pitches outside of the barriers? So their not actually on site inside the security barrier but outside.
Excellent sit
This is probably the fourth time we have stayed at this excellent site. It is a very good place to break your journey when travelling south and again returning home. The site is immaculately kept with a fishing lake and beautiful gardens and a lovely dog walk. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The pitches and wide and even, and the shower block is clean and tidy. We were lucky enough to meet Nellie (a dachshund) in the office. We would highly recommend this site.
clean and peaceful
Lovely staff, very clean a good location for us, lovely quiet village, would recommend
Nice fishing spot
We stayed for one night at the start of our holiday in the South West. My husband enjoyed an afternoon and evening fishing in the scenic lake. The warden allocated us a pitch but when hearing that my husband would be fishing let us use a vacant pitch around the lake which was appreciated. The site itself is pretty and maintained to a very high standard. We were aware of some traffic noise but not enough to spoil the ambience. We would visit again.

Just an Overnight Stop this time
Heading to the Scottish borders, we needed to find an overnight stop on the A1 loosely south of Doncaster. Milestones fitted the bill perfectly and we were not disappointed. We booked an overnight stop with electric and no awning and were given an easily accessible pitch near to the reception building and the loos. We had time for a wander around the site - it is a bit like a floral park with neatly maintained borders and grass areas, plus fishing lakes. Would happily stay here again, but next time I'll make it a couple of nights and explore what the area has to offer.
Access is off an old section of the Great North Road that has been bypassed by the new A1 that runs parallel. There is an access to the south and also to the north. I'd suggest using the north access (after the BP garage when heading north) and coming back on yourself a little as the road to the south appears to be used as a layby for lorries and looks to have a rough surface.
The downside of being close to the A1 is that it is a busy road 24 hours a day, so there is always some background noise. But as it is constant, you soon get used to it and block it out
Great site
This was our first vsit to this site but it won't be our last. Unusually pitches are assigned but you can select an arae to be in. take our advice and ask for the lake. These pitches overlook two small but beautifully landscaped fishing lakes and, so you get the best from it, they ask that you pitch nose in. This means that the first thing you see in the morning are the lakes. Beautiful area as well with a variety of National; Trust proeprties to visit as well as historic town such as Newark an Lincoln. We would definately recommend a visit to The Workhouse at Southwell as we as the Minster. We will definately be going back to this site.

What a treat
This site was really good. It was well maintained, toilet block to a high standard, staff very friendly and very helpful.
Bus to Newark just outside the campsite. The lanes were quiet enough to cycle and walk safely. Nearby Norwell village shop was well stocked and had a coffee machine that made wonderful coffee. The people here were friendly also. Walked and cycled along the River Trent.
Its only downside was being near the A1 which was at times noisy, but it would not stop us going again.
Just had nice weekend at milestone
Lovely landscaped park, which has a nice walk around the site past the lakes and ponds. Good dog walking facilities and plenty of walks from site. We walked to cromwell lock which took about an hour to reach by foot which was lovely. No local pubs or shop in cromwell other than bp services where there is a londis which you can walk too. We slept well, the busy A1 didnt bother us at all even when we sat outside, it is just a hum in the background. Nice site for a stop over, We personally do not fish which this site has good facilities for if you do wish to fish. Will definitely revisit this site again.
First time and won't be our last
A great 3 night stay at milestone with friends who have stayed here several times before. We had booked pitches side by side, but something had gone wrong with the booking and we weren't on the pitch we planned. However, it didn't matter and the staff were very apologetic. It's only half an hour from home so perfect for a quick weekend getaway for us. Superb large pitches and great surroundings. Lovely walks around the site and to Cromwell lock which is a longish walk but not strenuous. I have to say that I can't rate the site as super quiet due to the road noise which for some may be off putting, however I slept extremely well, better than at home, and found the gentle hum of the road noise very soothing. I can't wait to come back. I would highly recommend this super site.
