Peaceful little site

We stayed here for only 1 night on the way home from Wales. Firstly, the warden was very welcoming and gave all the details you needed for a peaceful stay. Firstly, the toilet block is small, only 2 showers and toilets. They are outdated and the tiles in the shower look like your grannies but it was very clean and absolutely fine. There were only about 10 units staying and I'm sure it would have been a rush to get in the shower if the site was fuller!! The dog walk just off the site was fine and ideal just for exercise before a trip out. The site is situated seemingly in the middle of the nowhere but is really peaceful. We had a trip to Woebley, a lovely little village about 5 miles away. Full of old charming houses and cottages with info sheets outside as you follow a trail. Also in the village are about 3 coffee shops and one of the best village butchers I have ever been too. Homemade sausages, big Pork ones called Woebley Whoppers!! were superb and tasty. Also some locally made cheese, locally sourced gammon. The butcher also kindly gave me a lump of steak mince free for the dog. A very generous gesture! The best part of the stay though was listening to owls flying around the site after dark and the views over open countryside. Simply stunning!! I would not stay there for anymore than a couple of days unless you like cycling and walking, and nothing there for children but we will return if passing through the area again.

We liked it.

We had a lovely 4 nights here and will be going back as we have family near by. I do agree with a lot of the comments below regarding the number of showers, tiredness of the block, hook up positions etc. etc. I won’t waffle on here as it’s all been said before BUT the owls hooting at night, the squirrels running about by day and the birds that are everywhere make it a lovely place to be. Lots of places to visit nearby, friendly staff who let my young nieces come for a visit. (Nothing more exciting for a 4 and 2 year old to come and have a picnic 😆).

Run down and unhelpful relief wardens

Arrived after 3-5hrs journey to find the conversation we had when booking the pitch with the warden appears to have been a fantasy, we told her we had a 7-35mtr caravan and she said there are 6 pitches available for larger vans and would reserve one for us. When we arrived the relief warden could not have shown any less interest, told us we were on pitch 18, we queried the size of the pitch with him as you could not get the car caravan and awning on it due to the overhanging trees and was clearly not a awning pitch, his attitude was take it or leave it, after we asked for a refund the lady warden miraculously found us a pitch in the original area for the next day, sadly we do not think this site and the staff are what we have come to expect from the CAMC. We have been members for more than 25 years, and for the first time we have vacated a site after one night and will never return nor recommend Moorhampton to anyone.

A quiet site, not much happening but pleasant enough

Stayed at this site for 2 nights and it was pleasant enough. The showers and ablutions were immaculately clean but dated and require improvement. Good bus links into Hereford but I wouldn't recommend cycling on the roads due to the volume of traffic. TV reception was poor and radio stations were not much better. In sum. Nice site for couples and great for dog walking. Not recommended for families unless your children are happy to make their own fun.

Non-awning pitches overlooked and only 4 showers

We only stayed for 1 night as a place to sleep on our way to South Wales and we were glad that was the case. We booked a non-awning pitch and by the time we got there there were only 3 left, which were side-on in between pitches on either side. We were totally overlooked on all sides with no privacy and it felt like we were pitched in a lay-by. When we arrived we were asked to put a mask on to go into reception by a member of staff who was not wearing one herself, which seemed strange. Although I understand the need for site staff to protect themselves, where is their regard for their guests? The facilities need upgrading but we’re clean. The site is relatively peaceful and close enough to the sights of Hereford and the surrounding area, if you were staying longer. Another member of staff did offer us some helpful advice when we were leaving. Overall, not what we’d hoped for.

Could be better

The location of this site is excellent for exploring the Herefordshire/Shropshire area. The wardens too are excellent. You can hear some road noise during the day, mainly tractors but at night it’s wonderfully quiet except for the sound of owls! We enjoyed our 3 night stay and would probably stay again however…. …the site itself is in desperate need of refurbishment. We’ve spent 36 nights on various sites this year and thus is probably the worst in terms of facilities. The facilities block is old and insufficient for the number of pitches. 2 showers which leak water all over the floor and water temperature and pressure varies from great to nonexistent repeatedly during the course of a quick shower. The trees and shrubs around site need to be tidied and due to apple trees and fallen fruit, wasps are a problem at this time of year. The Motorhome service point needs urgent upgrade to a grille since the manhole cover on the grey waste drain is difficult and awkward to manage. We’re young and fit and struggled with this, and granted there is a knack to it we found but why can’t we have a drive over grille and not have to rusk our fingers and backs in this process? We did get o2 signal on site and but the tv signal is poor and would benefit tv aerial point at the bollard like other sites have. The bollards serving 3 pitches are actually located directly on some pitches, right behind our van on ours, and we had to put up with members from 2 other pitches tramping over our pitch to hook up and disconnect daily and when this was right by our bedroom window at late night and they failed to remember it was a “twisty” one and had to keep coming back again and again, it was not welcome. This could be a wonderful site, and deserves to be, but investment is required.

Not up to standard.

A quiet site with lovely views. On arriving it looked the usual club site standard. I needed a shower as my van has no facility. Oh dear! Just two available. Both blocked and flooded. The squeegee mop was not up to the job as drains were blocked. There was a drains smell outside around the area. No staff here in reception after 4pm. We had just arrived from the Pandy club site where it was sparkling clean with no bad smells. I am disappointed. I understand it was bank holiday weekend but these showers are unusable and club pitch prices are not the cheapest. It is a small site but so was Pandy. No problems there. Two showers are not enough and these need serious attention.

quiet site.

A Peaceful site, well located for the county and Welsh borders. Situated in the countryside well surrounded by hedges which support wildlife. Being a long thin site it is quite a walk to the toilet block if you are parked up at the far end and not good on your feet. The site is level although some pitches are short. The toilet block was clean but has seen better day but remains functional. Poor phone signal on site. If you want an all singing all dancing site then not for you, but it worked for us and we will return. Wardens were helpful.

A very tired site.

I agree with dogmumSue in most respects. No problem with the wardens who were well up to the usual standard and kept everything clean, but the site needs significant investment before I could recommend it. The hardstanding areas needed tidying up, the amenity block needed a complete refurb (I had not seen those 6" square tiles for a while, and the hot water in the showers was intermittent).

Moorhampton Club Site

This is without doubt the scruffiest site owned by the Club. It needs a major makeover! The toilet block is a bit dated but adequate for a small site, but the pitches need re-doing and all trees and bushes need pruning. It has a small information room with a few leaflets but the whole place looks uncared for. Having said that, it is very conveniently placed for NT properties and several market towns like Hereford, Ledbury and Leominster and Hay on Wye and a fantastic very overpriced farm shop, Oak Church Farm Store. It is in a very peaceful area but there was constant noise from farm vehicles reversing and crow scarers. There is a very small TV signal on some pitches with broken up picture. I got a good phone signal with TalkTalk but no WiFi. The wardens do their best but the site needs professional care, so that they can keep things tidy. Some of the pitches are very short in length. If you've got a big outfit you'll be limited where you can pitch. The grass pitches on the left as you come in are obviously the prime pitches. Possibly have the best TV signal! There was a bus stop over the road but no verges to walk down the lane, which was obviously a cut through. Would I return? Probably no. It must appeal to some people although it was never full all the time we were there.
