Lovely location but some major problems

The location in the New Forest is lovely. Although please note there are no views of the forest from the site due to it needing to be surrounded by large hedges, and it is a very long walk up a road with no pavements to get into the forest by foot so you need a car, or to be willing to take a motorhome off site, in order to access the forest. The facilities were very clean. The pizza takeaway van is to be recommended. Unfortunately we had a few unhappy experiences during our stay. The wardens were very unwilling to help (to the point of being abrupt and dismissive) when we requested our friend with mobility issues needed to be dropped off by car to our pitch when he visited us. They were also very unhelpful to the point of being obstructive when we enquired about the possibility of a slightly later check out time on the day we were leaving - even though the site was extremely quiet and there were very few arrivals due in. They said it was not their policy to offer this, even though it would obviously have been no problem at all. I know it is not to be assumed that a site will be able to offer a later check out time, but on this occasion it was dismissed in a very 'jobs worth' way with no willingness to be at all flexible or accommodating. It is a very expensive site to stay on (compared to other CMC sites), so we do not plan to visit again. We will find one of the other sites in the New Forest next time.

We are currently staying here at the Centenary and I couldn’t pass this review without commenting as I think 1* is extremely unfair.

The site itself is a lovely location and we have found it a perfect central area for us to enjoy the coast and the new forest. Only a short walk from the site are some lovely walks and even better if you have bicycles (we recommend a cycle to Holmsley tea room!!)

We have found the wardens to be nothing but friendly and helpful, and always with a smile might I add. I think it’s unfair to say they were unhelpful, I am sure that for the most part they were sticking with policy and everyone knows that if a rule is broken for one then the rest will want the same, there would be no point in having the rules then.

I may have this wrong but it sounds that perhaps you were hoping for a site that had great views and so you wouldn’t need to leave the site or go far. The site may not have views but it’s very big to walk around and well kept, and so quiet and peaceful. If it’s a motorhome your staying in I saw no issues with parking at any of the forestry car parks, and even down near the coast at Mudeford or Highcliffe Beach we have seen many a motorhome parked up with loads of space for them right at the sea front to enjoy the views. I think this is more about your personal choice, not a reason to rate down a completely lovely site that has lots to offer.

The only thing I think let’s the site down is the outdated photos on the CAMC website as they don’t do it justice.
