We were a bit worried by some reviews referring to derelict toilet blocks and a site full of travellers but we were pleasantly surprised with how good this site is. It's basically 2 very large circles but, unlike most other sites, the centres of these don't have any pitches on them and consequently the site feels really open and well spaced out. Yes the old toilet block is still there but it is just a building that is closed and tucked away under the trees at one side. There are therfore no toilet or shower facilities but this is clear when you book and in current covid times actually a blessing? It certainly doesn't make it feel like a building site. There does seem to be a lot of long term seasonal pitches (long grass growing under the vans) but we didn't see any "travellers" that other reviews mentioned. The dog walk (which for us is important when choosing sites) was a bit disappointing. The original walk (as shown on the site plan) is closed though I don't know if this is permanent. Instead we were told to use the are surrounding the children's playing/football field and to have the dogs on a lead. It's a very large area and the addition of some fencing to enclose a small area for "off lead" would have been good and would have kept dogs away from the children's playing field. We didn't have children with us but, being half term and bank holiday weekend, there were quite a few families there. Although no play equipment there is a good size "pitch" and because the site is so spacious, flat and open the kids seemed quite happy trundling around on their bikes or playing with swingball etc. From the site we visited Brighton (expensive car parking at £8 for 2 hrs), Worthing and Chichester (which we find really nice with plenty of "covid" space in the main streets) and all within 30min. Local beaches are mainly pebble, unless the tide is out but they seemed to just go on and on and on. We found the village of East Preston (literally a couple of cafes and pubs plus the odd shop) had access to the beach and a beach cafe. If you have dogs wanting a run and the tide is in, facing the sea, turn right and walk to the next main access point/road and you will find an endless safe grass area running between the beach and the houses heading towards Littlehampton. There is some very distant road noise but it still felt very tranquil and calm. A good site that for us would be a great site with a better dog walk area. Oh yes and in keeping with traditional C&MH club reviews the wardens were friendly too (though I only interact with them for less than 10 mins in a 7 day stay)🙂😉
