Wonderful site....

We are just back from a weekend here, this site is a real gem, very clean and tidy, lovely little planter full of fresh herbs for you to use when cooking! A warm welcome from the owners and the pitches were level and spacious. The site is more geared to adults, but we took 4 youngsters who had an absolute blast enjoying the site, woods and walks around the local Fontburn reservoir. The dog walk is so peaceful and watch for deer and bats, we even were lucky enough to see a Osprey over the Reservoir. Everyone around the site was so friendly, I really cannot express how relaxed I feel after our weekend here. Oh and the don't miss out on the ice cream from the shop mmmm. Please do not let the lack of a toilet block put you off this site, it has great easy access facilities for emptying your toilet so do not let that put you off a visit to this fantastic site. I like to give a fair review and mention a few not so great points, however on this site I cannot find any to give, maybe bring midgy spray, but that is to be expected when in a woodland area near water! oh and walk to the end of the dog walk, there is the beautiful old Nunnykirk House with stonework ranging from 1536, a private school now so no entry but what can be see from the main path is beautiful. See you again very soon and Thank you for a wonderful weekend with lots of memories made.

Peace with nature

This site was approached through some confusing roads but well worth the effort. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. There are all grass pitches but that's not an issue if you're careful where and when you visit. There was an abundance of wildlife and we saw squirrels, woodpeckers, chaffinches and the more unusual and unexpected tree creepers. There were very friendly pheasants walking around the site, which were a bit noisy at times and made us jump the first couple of times at their rather loud calls, but we soon got used to it. We will certainly revisit again as we loved the beauty of the local area and there are places to visit within easy reach. If you have children who can enjoy the nature around them and not worry about using wifi etc then this site would be excellent for them.

The unfriendliest site we have ever visited

Found the staff at this site to be rude and unwelcoming. Reception apparently closes at 3.30 pm despite no mention of this on the club website and in the booking confirmation emails we received; and as we arrived at 3.40 pm were given no welcome just subjected to a telling off!!! We were rushed into choosing a pitch and to report back with our pitch number immediately as the site wardens were going off duty. Apparently there are 4 resident wardens according to the signage so why reception is not open for longer hours the Caravan & Motorhome Club need to investigate. The site is in 3 sections but most of the better pitches in each section are reserved for seasonal long term bookings. Recycling and waste water / elsan disposal areas are clean and tidy. All grass pitches, grass needs cutting, very uneven in places. The site is very quiet and peaceful but is quite isolated. Nearest town is Rothbury which has all facilities. Not a great experience will not return.

Blissfully peaceful

We've just returned from 5 nights at this wonderful site.. we normally favour CL's as we love the quiet but this site is ideal as it is split into 3 separate areas which do not intrude on each other. It has the most perfect dog walk direct from the site, almost a mile of wide path, woodland and the river twisting through. We sadly didn't see any red squirrels but we saw several roe deer ! We especially loved the walks round the Simonside hills, Lordenshaw Hillfort and Rothbury ... all just a few miles away and all with free parking ! Easy driving distance from Kielder reservoir and all it's activities too. Our only grumble would be that the grass was rather long... a shame, as it had been very dry weather up to the Bank holiday weekend so I'm not sure why it hadn't been cut before the site got busy.

Middle of nowhere

The title says it all its 6 miles from the nearest town and its very much back to nature. The lady warden was really friendly and full of good advice about the location as were the people on site on the seasonal pitches. The only reason I marked it down was for families but if they like walking and nature rambles why not . We toured the North East coast and it will remain in our hearts its absolutely stunning . Will visit again during a dry spell because I understand in adverse weather the site can flood .

Nice Easter break

Our first visit to this site which is split into three separate areas. Not all pitches were available due to the soft ground, but there was still plenty of choice when we arrived on Thursday before Easter. As per other reviews, very peaceful but a little remote as it was a 5 mile drive to Rothbury each morning for a paper. Up to the day before we arrived, the site was showing as full over easter, but there were plenty of vacant useable pitches so I can only assume there were a lot of no shows.

Fantastic site

I absolutely love this site. No toilet block? I really don't care less. I have a fully equipped caravan. I'm not staying in a tent! The peace and quiet on this site is unsurpassed even with a few children staying. Someone else mentioned the owls at night, but that really is a lovely thing. There are no hard standing pitches, but I prefer the grass anyway - particularly when erecting an awning. An absolutely lovely area right next to Fontburn Resevoir. Superb!

Lovely quiet get away location

This was our first caravan holiday and first trip to Northumberland, friendly welcome from staff, three fields to choose from, chose field one which we more or less had to ourselves. Very quiet location good for exploring Northumberland, nice walk on site for the dog's. would recommend to anyone who wants to get away from it all and will be going back. June 2016
