Intimate site; pubs a plenty
Stayed for five days and found this to be a great base, with lots of good walking and cycling, and lovely pubs nearby. Highly recommend The Carpenters Arms, just over a mile away up a country lane, it's setting is quite idyllic, with good views to enjoy from a few benches and tables at the front. Homely place to enjoy good pub food and warm hospitality. Also try the Hunters Moon - we walked the Offa's Dyke Trail from the site - 3.8 miles - to get there, otherwise accessed by narrow lanes. Both pubs were dog friendly.
The wardens shop doesn't stock a great deal (no newspapers), the nearest place is a couple of miles drive. Dog owners note warning sign in dog walk about Adders - though I understand none sighted for years.
