Long weekend and Dogs Day Out

Had 4 nights at Pembrey last weekend. Very nice site. Loads if room, we had a huge grass pitch at the back of the site, could have got 4 units instead of just one! I took some time to get used to the nearby Pembrey Country Park, it's a bit out of the way, no pubs or restaurants for miles. Very quiet, almost erie, ex RAF & Royal Ordanance factory, bit run down & forgotten in places and £5 to visit & park there when everything is closed is a bit much. Beach is nice, huge, deserted, windy - great views across to the Gower. Loads of walks, bike rides and the place does grow on you. Anyway back to the CC Site at Pembrey just outside of the Country Park. It's very tidy, good clean facilities, fantastic wardens especially Bill who saved our weekend helping get the unit off the tow bar on arrival. Superb chap! Toilets on CC sites always amaze me. Just 4 showers in the Gents but 6 privacy cubicles with wash basin that few people use. Might be better turning some of these into showers. Other than that deity the site being full no queues of any note and pretty clean despite the wet weather.  Some of the hard standing pitches are a bit close together but as I said loads of room on the grass pitches around the extremities of the site. Lots of service areas to.  Dog enjoyed it as there were numerous walks and we didn't miss having an onsite dog walk. There was a brilliant dog show on the Sunday in PCP and was well worth a visit.  It's a long haul to a decent pub or for food but Sospan in North Dock Llanelli was great if a little pricy without a "deal". Nice weekend but the surrounding area didn't do it for me, Pembrey village, Burry Port & Kidwelly a bit run down & we had to venture up towards Llandeilo to see a NT place worth the visit.

facilities need improving

This is a lovely positioned site, but when all of the pitches are full, the facilities for the quantity of people staying are lacking. 4 ladies showers which didn't flow very well, 2 wash hand basins and 1 hand dryer, 1 hairdryer isn't adequate and the same for the men's. Despite the wardens hard work on keeping them clean the facilities are now looking very tired and they need updating. Also the position of the entry and exit barrier key fob is no suitable as requires elevating as the passenger has to get out to open the barrier.

Plenty to do in a quiet area

We stayed here in August and it was a great site for us.  The walk to the beach takes about 20 minutes but is easy and a few minutes further along before you go onto the beach means you can let the dogs off straight away.  It's a fantastic, huge and pretty empty beach, perfect for dogs, but good for sand castles too!  The country park, accessed straight from site, has lots to do, the only negative is it would have been good if the cafe/bar stayed open into the evening as no pub really in walking distance of the site.  However there is a flat, mostly traffic free and very pretty cycle route from the site into Bury Port, which our nine year old managed easily.  Bury Port has a pretty harbour and a few shops and I think a few pubs, although we didn't use them.  Toilet blocks on this site are more dated, but as always, they are clean.  Sometimes had to queue at busy times. Overall I would travel the three and a half hours to go back here, would just hope for better weather than we had this time!

Great site for kids

We were here last weekend in July following a very wet week, the site was none the worse for the appalling rain. The grandchildren love this site as there is plenty for them to do and the adjacent country park is entered directly from the site so they can explore there as well. Local village supplies all your needs.  No Dog walk on site but easy access to beaches and countryside.  Would recommend

So what... it rained

Spent ten days (mostly wet) here in August 15 with 9 year old son and our dog. Yes, it rained, no, we did not care! Beach = awesome, even in rain! Park = awesome, tobogan run is open all weather. Our son made friends, we watched them ride bikes, scooters etc and have fun. A beautiful, but quiet, part of the world. Don't expect tourism stuff here or to walk to a shop, pub, takeaway but do go! Make use of the vans that arrive selling milk, juice, bread, bacon etc each day and, if got a dog/child buy the car park token for the park from reception as its a fair track from site to the beach!

Holiday at Pembrey

This was our first visit to Wales camping. The facilities at Pembrey were very clean and the staff welcoming. The toilet/shower block is only accessible with your key which is given to you on arrival. You only forget it a few times and then it becomes normal! The country park which is minutes away is beautiful, opening out onto a huge sandy beach which was stunning. Cycling around the park was amazing with routes being relatively flat. The facilities on the park included archery, skiing and horse riding. The Wifi was not available for a couple of days due to a fault, once repaired it was patchy and generally quite slow. Not sure if this was down to the volume of people or the system.

Welsh Treasure

Just returned from a wonderful couple of weeks at Pembrey.  This was our 3rd visit here in 3 years.  The site, as always, was immaculate and the staff were wonderful.  We had our 2 granddaughters with us (13 & 7) and there was plenty to do especially the steam train at Carmarthen and Dan-yr-Ogof caves. We were very fortunate to have 10 sunny days and even though the last couple were very wet, we still managed to find plenty to do.  Daily visits to the site by local baker, milkman etc were very welcomed - we particularly enjoyed the cream cakes.  Thoroughly recommend this site and area and we are already looking forward to our next visit.

ok in fine weather

It wasn't really the site's fault that my two days here were rather grim. The rain was incessant. I was on a grass pitch which had obviously previously had a long-stay awning over it. The result was a muddy mess which my dogs brought into the motorhome. As for dogs, there is no designated dog walk. There is a vast country park with miles of walking. Unfortunately, the rain meant people were just walking their dogs around the campsite and not always picking up the doo-doo. Being August there were of course lots of children for whom the location of the site would be bliss, given the right weather. In the event there were numerous children just cycling and scooting around the site and cluttering up the reception/shop for lack of anything better to do. The on-site playground is quite small and uninteresting. I felt sorry for the wardens who had to keep telling children to mind out for vehicles. I came home early!

No need to leave

Pembrey is a little haven beyond the main tourist areas of the Gower. 7.5 miles of sandy beaches of which about 200 metres are a no dog zone and lifeguarded. Huge areas of wooded cycling, a dry ski slope, a couple of cafes and a few ice cream vans. The site itself is impeccably clean and maintained, it has some classic South Wales traditions which highlight why you won't have to leave the site. It has a milkman delivery van, a baker/grocer van in the mornings, and an ice cream van in the evenings that travel around the site and parp their horn. Its become our new favourite location.
