Curate's Egg

We spent a week at Royal Vale in June 2022. The location was good for us as we wanted to visit Jodrell Bank but also a variety of other places, especially Cheshire's National Trust sites, all new to us. It would also prove convenient for those looking for an overnight stop being an easy 10 minute drive from the M6. The nearest town is Knutsford about a quarter of an hour to the north. There's also a village with basic shops ten minutes to the south. The site is directly off the A50, which on our first evening seemed to have become a rat run for a blocked motorway. Alternatively it might have been a Manx TT race track for motorbikes. Either way it was very noisy. Saturday afternoon and evening we were bombarded with loud rock music blowing our way from a nearby venue. Then there's Manchester Airport's flight paths to consider - that starts at about 6am. The site claims "Five Star facilities", whatever that means. There is a well equiped toilet block yet even that was spoilt by amateurish attempts at providing cheapo coat hooks and tatty metal baskets for ones shampoo etc. The showers were of the push button type with the water lasting barely fifteen seconds at a time. Most of the plots were of hard standing with fresh water tap and grey water drain adjacent. Our plot was rather small even for our 2-berth van. Many of the adjacent plots appeared to be seasonal lettings and unoccupied. There is no shop, nor newspapers, not even a visiting fish and chip van and no dog walk unless you count the adjacent bridleway. Whilst we were there a major re-build of the access road near the reception in progess - more noise from diggers.................. That in a nutshell is how we found it. Rather different from the image propogated by the Royal Vale website. Beware.
