A disappointment

We had a dissapointing stay at Southlands. Whilst the toilet block was clean and adequate there should be another block for the hardstanding area. It should also not be necessary to close both the mens & ladies blocks at the same time for 2 hours, with only one disabled toilet as an alternative. During our stay there was a lot of heavy rain and this caused some very overused pitches to become very muddy. These hard worn pitches ought to be rotated to enable them to revive the grass. Unfortunately two of the staff were less than helpful.

Best Site

This year will be our 6th visit to this wonderful site. Everything about it is great. It's clean, tidy, the toilet block immaculate. The ferry journey is really stress free on Red Funnel. We try and cycle everywhere so we downloaded routes to try before we left. Also walking is great. The Pointer pub down the road is fantastic. The only downside is cycling back up the very steep hill, so the pub is a good watering place!! Will return......soon No

Returning again

A beautiful site just a shame there isn't a toilet block at the end of the hard standings. We have just completed our third visit to this site and love the island the beaches are amazing and the beach at yaverland is very "dog friendly" all year round the sail is a short one and it's well worth the visit

Once again - Can't fault it

We are so lucky to have this site so near to us - Yes we live on the Isle of Wight... I cannot fault anything on this site, I have never seen such hard working but friendly and welcoming wardens they are brilliant. The facilities are spotless and the showers always warm. i am counting the days till the next visit - if I can persuade him who thinks he should be obeyed....

Southland I.O.W

Very nice site wardens very helpful clean well kept. People's barking dogs a bit of a pain a bit of noise from the road otherwise ok. Pitch 143 a waist of time in fact it could be used as another motorhome service point. Wash up water lukewarm told wardens but they said it was regulations but I know that it could be hotter it certainly useless for greasy dishes in fact we used hot water from our own devices so having to use extra electric. Health & safety rules over hygiene standards, I know what I would prefer. Will return another time. Overall a nice site.

Site coped with torrential rain

We were there when it hammered down with rain and apart from pitches that had suffered 'awning damage' in the past, the pitches coped remarkably well. So did the wardens. Some hard standing, grass pitches OK for motorhomes. Bit of a rabbit warren. Facilities outstanding. Usable motorhome service point. Very clean and spacious. The scenic walk into Sandown is pleasurable, Sandown isn't. Other towns much better. Pointer Inn is in the village and within staggering distance of the site. Food and ale superb but please book ahead. Heavy flow of passengers/vehicles across the water caused a few minor issues with Red Funnel services. Osborne House was a great half day out. Will not be visiting IOW again although if we did, we would book in on this site without quibbling.

Back on the Island after 50 years

Used to go to the Island every year in the late 50's and 60's as a nipper. So this year, we decided, 'it's time to visit the I.O.W. again'. We booked for 2 weeks at Southlands and were looking forward to a great time. On arrival the wardens gave us a really friendly welcome and showed us which pitches were available. Given that my good lady is very unsteady on her feet, a spot right next to the toilet block ticked all the boxes. The neighbours were all really nice chatty folk. The 2 weeks soon went by and we had a great time. I can't recommend this site highly enough and to quote Arnie 'we'll be back'! Don't forget places to visit, Osborne House, Steam Railway, Needles, Carisbrooke Castle + lots of other things. Which ever ferry terminal you land at, don't let SAT NAV do the work, go to Newport then take the Sandown road through Arreton. Yes, I made the mistake and ended up down a lane 6' 6" wide! There's always one!

2nd year

Just been back to southlands for our second  visit. Our first was last year for our honeymoon. We love the Island. We have been visiting the IoW since 2006 when we got engaged there. We have been back every year since...that said ..Southlands is awful...pls don't visit! This will leave more room for us when we return to our little piece of heaven next year!!! Joking aside, Southlands is beautiful. Well kept, clean and a great CC site. The Wardens are very friendly and helpful. We wont be  staying anywhere else on our favourite 'British Isle'.Do you selves a favour...The British Isles has so many beautiful places to visit...Visit this one and enjoy all of the sites and festivals that the Isle of Wight has to offer. You won't be disappointed. Can't wait for our year three!

Lovely Site

Just spent a week here and have no adverse comments to make except it should be run by the Kennel Club!!  The site is split into cul de sacs - and where I was there were 7 pitches and 10 barking dogs!! However, the site itself was very good and the Wardens very friendly and helpful. The island is well worth a visit, even during Bestival weekend.

Great first holiday overseas

We have been caravanning for over 5 years and have had many lovely breaks on the main land. So made the decision to try Southlands and were not disappointed from the moment we arrived the wardens were so helpful and we soon found a pitch which was sunny and not too far from the shower block. The site is well maintained and very clean. The Island offers so much to do for all age groups and children. The White Lion pub at Arreton is a must and well respected by the locals. The menu is very varied but you need to book so as not to be disappointed. If you like to BBQ then visit Famer Jack's at Arreton for a huge selection of meats and sausages etc. We had a super time and would recommend this site.
