Great site, lovely location and walks available!

Arrived on Friday for a 2 night break. Wonderful site, excellent wardens, lovely guests on-site and generally an excellent stay! Great location if you like woodland areas and walking. Great play facilities for kids and a host of walks with different durations in the surrounding areas. Road to enter is a single track but has many passing places too. Will certainly be coming back in the near future!

Lovely peaceful and relaxing site

We made a last minute decision to have a weekend at this site as a couple and we couldn’t fault it. Very friendly and helpful wardens and they keep the site immaculate. The site is very quiet and there are walks in the forest right from the site entrance and bike hire right next door if you want it. We will certainly be returning for another weekend soon. Thank you.

Lovely site

I don’t often leave reviews but am moved to by this site. The wardens are friendly and helpful and obviously take great pride in their site. The grounds are immaculate and the flowers (it is July when writing) are beautiful. No facilities so no comment there but the location is ideal for walking in the woods right outside the gate. This site is an hours drive from my home so will be a new favourite for a quick getaway.

Chilled out!

Just a short stay over the weekend, but felt fully refreshed afterwards. We found the site staff friendly and informative and enjoyed our stay at this superb location. We will be back! If you had shower and 'green' toilet facilities, that would be even better.

Great location and very peaceful site.

This is a lovely quiet site in a peaceful location. We wish we had been warned about the access from the main road - it's narrow with passing places and has shared access with the Forestry Commission Centre (Fineshade Wood) so it took us by surprise, in fact we thought we had gone wrong and would need to turn round. Thank goodness we saw a car and caravan approaching so we realised we were on the correct road. The site is great for walking and cycling with direct access into the woods from the site. The wardens are super friendly and very helpful - especially enjoyed their "thoughts for the day". They, along with the seasonal pitch owners, have created a delightful small garden with bench and bird feeders, together with a wild flower patch - both of which can be enjoyed by everyone. There is also direct access into the woods for the dog walk. However, as usual, it would appear that some dog owners do not read or understand the 2metre lead rule when on site and persist in allowing their dogs to roam around and urinate at will wherever the fancy takes them. It also appears that some seasonal pitch owners (who you would think would know better) are also guilty of this. We do not understand why these people think it is perfectly acceptable to allow their pets to behave in this way - maybe someone could explain their thought processes? We will certainly be returning to this lovely site in the future as there is a lot to see and do in the area. Burghley House is well worth a visit as is Rockingham Castle. Stamford is great with lots of independent shops and very nice cafes and a very useful M&S Foodhall. Rutland Water is great for walking or cycling (bikes can be hired) or just a lovely spot for a picnic. One of the most interesting aspects of our visit were the regular performances from the red kites which were clearly visible most days from the site - take your binoculars - they put on a good show. All in all we had a most enjoyable trip - this was our first visit to the area - and will certainly be back again.

SPLENDID VISIT TO FINESHADE WOOD CLUB SITE

Well set out site with one-way driving system in place. Hardstanding pitches were a good size. Some of the grass pitches not quite so spacious (bearing in mind the 3M gap which has to be maintained between your awning and next door's car etc). Also, we fell foul of the rule to roll back awning ground sheet at regular intervals. This was only our third booking as CMC members and our first on grass. I thought I'd read the instructions but confess I missed this rule. The warden politely reminded us we must allow air onto the grass beneath the awning, and we duly did. The matter for us has been rectified and it won't happen again. However, we did notice that many of the grass pitches were in a bad way with brown patches and dying grass. Both our neighbours who left before us left yellow grass. Both, I had seen, had breathable ground sheets. The rules do not mention whether ground sheets should be breathable or not and therefore, I would expect that ALL ground sheets should be rolled back to allow air to circulate. It seems to me that not many members do so! Three of the site's pitches were 'out of use' due to being covered with white sheets to allow recovery time from previous damage. Apart from that, there are no toilet/wash facilities but this is not a problem if you have them 'onboard' and the service points were immaculate. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful; the man (whose name I did not get) went out of his way to give me information I requested. We had a very good stay and wouldn't hesitate to visit again. We cycled round Rutland Water and got absolutely delicious freshly baked bread from Kings Cliffe down the road. Stamford is also very nice.

Lovely site but Inconsiderate vanners

Very friendly relief wardens. Lovely wooded site with lovely walks. Stamford Oakham and Oundle all worth a visit. No toilet block but no big deal. The biggest disappointment are inconsiderate vanners who constantly thought it was acceptable to walk thru peoples pitches just to save a few steps. Dog owners who persist in using long leads with no intention of walking there dogs off site but any piece of grass whether it’s in front of someone else’s can … even if they’re eating supper.. let their dogs toilet. Many openly using their own pitches as a dog toilet.. but we’ve cleaned up… of course that makes it all okay. No regards for those using pitch after them. It’s becoming an acceptable practice on CAMC & a disgusting one. Shame on you!

A week filled with sunshine

After a dreadful washout during most of May, it was such a wonderful week filled with warmth, sunshine and tranquility. We have been to Stamford before after a long, protracted lockdown and as previously, the site and the area didn't disappoint. Some great tracks to ride your bike through. Wonderful woodland to explore for both adults and children alike. The pitches are a good size and the site has a garden feel due to the mature trees and bushes that break up the pitches. For the first time ever with the CMHC we were allocated a pitch number, the reasons for which got slightly lost on translation. Felt the wardens could have been a little less frosty in giving an explanation. Fortunately, all's well that ends well.

Very peaceful and well maintained site

We stayed here for a few days as a family of 3. We absolutely loved it. Very quiet and well located for walks in the forest. The site is easy to access off the A43 and is right next door to the Forestry Commission Visitor Centre with fully appointed Café, Toilets and bike hire should you want it. There are great kids activities (playgrounds within very close walking distance and a Gruffalo Trail with a 7ft carved Gruffalo to welcome any little people who may want to fid him! Staff were friendly and helpful as we always find. A great stay and one we would return to without hesitation

Fantastic site

One of our favourite sites, set in Fineshade woods. Site is well maintained, wardens very cheery and helpful. Great walks in the woods, hubby was lucky enough to see the deer while on the early morning dog walk. Delicious ice cream at Grounds coffee shop next door & Stamford market on Friday is not to be missed. Looking forward to our return visit in July.
