Stayed here for two nights
Pros -
Great location off A38.
Great dog walk.
Fantastic park next door.
Cons -
No toilets for such a large site (21 century ?). 5 van site understood this site can't understand.
If your pitch is towards the entrance of the site there's quite a bit of road noise all night. Suppose this is the down side to having such a convenient location of an A road.
One poor pitch on a fabulous site
I was allocated pitch 35 (without awning) and this rather spoilt what is otherwise a fabulous site. Why did it spoil it? Well, pitch 35 is on the edge of the site and had 3 distinct disadvantages. 1. It slopes strongly to the rear, which meant reversing onto levelling blocks, not too big a problem. 2. It is totally shaded by a number of beautiful large trees and did not get any sun at all at any time of day so I jealously watched everyone else basking in the sun while I sat outside with a fleece on, once again not the end of the world. 3 and a big 3. The pitch is right on the dog walk and dogs naturally cant wait so they start pooing right outside your van (everyone picked up), whilst they are pooing the owners are gawking into the van until a happy wave embarrasses them to turn away. So in summary sat in the shade watching the dogs poo, owners gawk and worried the van was going to slide of the blocks in the night. Did I complain, no, well why. I was grateful to get the very last pitch on the day I arrived, I still had all the benefits of friendly knowledgeable staff, I was on a clean and secure site with well maintained motorhome facilities and I was in a great location, most of all the 4 nights were incredibly competitively priced. In my view pitch 35 should be taken out of service until a hedge can be planted and matured to separate it from the dog walk. I will definitely use the site again just be adamant i wont go on number 35 Blue.
Just What We Needed
This was our first holiday in our campervan and since lockdown. The site was lovely and peaceful, although full for the bank holiday. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. We had decided we would use our own facilities so this site worked perfectly for us. We had a lovely chilled few days taking advantage of the beautiful walks accessible directly from the site.
Fabulous for dogs
Our first time out in the motorhome and what a fabulous site to choose for a first outing with the dogs. The caravan site is directly next door to the country park with miles upon miles of walks. The dogs and ourselves loved it.
The site was quiet, with limited facilities due to the pandemic, but this was to be expected and fine for us. The wardens were very friendly. We had to ask to place the moterhome away from the 'spot', due to the awning otherwise not fitting the space and the warden was fine when I explained the situation (especially as we were due a downpour).
We will definately be back to this lovely site.
Always a good site to visit
Very convenient if travelling further into Devon/Cornwall. Trago Mills opposite is useful. Country park with lake next door is a bonus.
Right next to stover park, excellent location
I love this site, the location for me is excellent because it is next to stover park, it can be a little noisy if u end up by the road and there are currently no toilets. They have a little wooded dog walk on the river and my dog loves it, i sit on the bench while she paddles. Close to trago.
What no fish and chips
This is my favourite site and as always the wardens are excellent and helpful. The booking in procedure instilled confidence that adequate precautions are in place, in fact during my stay it seemed like there was no pandemic. Can't understand why the fish and chip van is not allowed on site as after all when you give your order you distance yourself, you can pay by card or cash. But all is not bad, if you miss your chips you can catch the van at Liverton post office on Fridays at 6 pm. Just 5 minutes from the site
Great site - One problem
I spent a very pleasant week at Stover. A great little site, and although no toilet block, given the current pandemic, that wasn't a problem.
The problem, however, was pitch 37. It should be avoided at all costs, and any other pitches that are under a pine tree. Unfortunately it was the only one available when I arrived.
It wasn't just the continual machine gun rattle of the pine cone seed falling on the caravan roof, 24 hours a day, but the mess it made of the caravan. The pine sap combined with rain and sun left the bodywork severely stained. After trying various cleaning products, and white spirit and Gunk, which had no effect, I spent five hours and a whole bottle of T Cut to attempt to remove it. It seemed to work but there are still some residual streaks on the paintwork. I haven't been able to tackle the roof yet, which is completely brown!
A lovely week, but that did tend to spoil it a bit.
Good to be back - no concerns
Lucky enough to get a timed arrival slot for the 4th July (applicable for first day only I think). Booking in procedure very smooth and the wardens very welcoming and professional. Much thought had gone into the way of working on site for everyone to stay safe and enjoy themselves. Very relaxed atmosphere on site and the members were noticeably friendly and respectful of circumstances.
The site and local attractions have been documented elsewhere. A very well kept and enjoyable site with the added bonus of a good dog walk.
I particularly liked the opportunity to pre-book a pitch, it saves chasing around the site looking for an available pitch.
