A good stop off, not great for visiting Glasgow
I came here just for one night on my way further north; perhaps one night is not enough to judge a site, but it was my second visit. As on my first visit, I was really stuck by how well kept and how pretty this site is – despite, on this occasion, the beginning of the ravages of autumn. There are a number of nice touches. The site is also very convenient as a stopping off point for those travelling to the further reaches of Scotland, being just off the A74(M). The adjacent country park is also worth a visit – something of an oasis in the suburban sprawl of outer Glasgow.
I don’t think I would recommend it as a place to stay in order to visit Glasgow for those, mostly motorhomers I suppose, who rely on public transport. Reaching a bus is somewhat convoluted albeit that they can be reached without having to negotiate busy roads, there being paths and bridgeways. The nearest railway station is a long walk and a taxi would be better. Ayr is a favourite site of mine, and it is very easy to visit Glasgow by catching the train from there; I would choose that for those wanting to visit Glasgow except it closes in winter (sadly).
The other downside, for me, of this site, is its size. It is exceptionally large. It is a very personal view, but I prefer smaller sites.
Those easily impacted by a bit of traffic noise will also probably not like it here; but this is never an issue for me.
I only met one site manager and to be blunt I found him a tad supercilious, but on that I’ll say nothing more. Mostly, wardens are so kind and helpful.
