A second beautiful stay at this idyll

Well, we came back, as it was that good the first time.... So, peaceful, rural, spacious and scrupulously well maintained. A pub literally across the road from the site that's reasonable enough and has Wifi. We had a pitch overlooking the beck, and turned our van to face it as we did last time, so our view was the trees and the beck. The birds are out in force now so if you enjoy having a birdfeeder by your van, this is a good place. There were a couple of cheeky grey squirrels around, but also a beautiful rabbit doe who was out most afternoons and evenings around the carvan. We did a nice walk from Bank Top (5 mins drive up the 1 in 3 hill next to the site) where there are the remains of ironstone smelters to gawp at and car parking. We walked along the track of the old railway around the valley to the Lion pub at Blakey Ridge - 5 miles each way and a great pub to have lunch at. Watch out for Grouse chicks in the heather at this time of year! I have a feeling we will be back again. Wonderful wardens who as ever, would offer help and advice if we needed it, and who keep the site pristine. My hat goes off to them!

Peace and beauty

If you are looking for a peaceful get away then this site certainly hits the spot. Lets start with what some might think as faults. 1. The site doesnt have a toilet block. However it does have plenty of service points along the site. 2. The site has a very poor phone signal ( none existent) the pub opposite has free wifi so you can keep updated with the real world over a pint. 3. As with all sites the site Wifi is rubblish and should be avoided at all costs. 4. Access to the site should only be attempted from Pickering via Wrelton and Cropton do not try and use Chimney bank ! 5. The adjacent road can be noisy during the day but is generally quiet at night. The good points 1. The Coach House Inn opposite the site offers a great range of real ales and good food at a reasonable cost. The pub is also very dofg freindly and has an excellent seating area to the front. 2. The village has two amazing tea rooms the Graze on the green is to die for! 3. The walks from the site are epic miles and miles of beautiful scenery. 4. The site although remote is ideally suited for visiting lovely neighbouring villages such as Hutton le hole, Lastingham with its pretty chuch as wonderful Blacksmits Arms, Blakey Ridge, Cropton and further afield towards Egton and the popiular heartbeat country of Goathland. 5. The site itself is immaculate with a warm welcome and well kept facilities. 6. The village has a very active community with lots of local events. Give it a try you wont be disappointed

Perfect little site

We stayed here for two nights in March and had a wonderful stay. There is a road alongside the site, but it's not particularly busy and we certainly didn't mind it. The site staff were super friendly, and the location is amazing - two pubs within walking distance and so many good walks/attractions nearby. The stream running through the site is so peaceful, and we loved the little dog toy box in the dog walking area - a lovely touch! Will be staying here again!

Moor Yorkshire please!

Love this site! initially put off by a review stating a “busy road” but after looking at the location I dismissed my worries. stayed for 4 nights over the recent Easter holiday, In my experience the road had occasional heavy farm vehicles which were occasionally noisy, for a matter of seconds, two or three times a day! This site is in a very rural setting, incredibly peaceful with perfect access to moors and open countryside and the village and its pubs alike. This site does however need more hard pitches and I feel the club should make that investment to improve as it’s prone to waterlogged grass pitches a large number of grass bookings were cancelled due to unsuitable pit conditions. NB there is NO mobile phone signal in many parts of the NY moors! And the Wi-Fi access on site is only via a hotspot by the office which you must buy via the clubs Wi-Fi facility, which in my experience is expensive and under invested in by the club. You can get free Wi-Fi access at the pubs in the village who are very accommodating or of course you can schlep up the 1 in 3 hill to get full mobile coverage:) Having addressed the negatives, I still wholeheartedly will give a definite 5* rating as it really is the perfect hidden gem.

A great site!

OK, we do read reviews so let's look at some of the issues: - the road past the site is a minor road, and has very light traffic; we saw two HGVs and one cement mixer in three days; the noisiest noise was the occasional rattle of the sheep farmers' trailers. The place is so quiet that all we heard was birdsong 99.9% of the time, and we found it very peaceful, although to be fair we took a pitch on the side away from the road.

- phone signal: zero, and zero for miles around too. There is a club wifi hotspot outside the reception area, so you have to sit on the becnh by the birdfeeder if you are doing anything long winded. The wardens have chivvied the Club to install full wifi for all the site but it's hurry up and wait. The local pubs all have free wifi in any case, so that's a pleasure to sample great beers and catch up on the world. I'm from the generation where you used to have to walk to a phonebox to stay in touch, so 21st century problems like this are not an issue.

The wardens were lovely - we pitched on the beck side of the site, put our van facing the beck, rabbits everywhere, a Dipper in the stream, and song birds galore. We basically had a 10 metre grass lawn in front of us up to where the beck fence is - that's bigger than our garden.

The facilities were spotless and well maintained. The drive in from the A170 isn't too hard but there are some narrower sections, bumpy roads, steepish little dips and rises, and a couple of interesting corners. As a novice tower, I just took my time. The village has three good pubs, two cafes, and a small shop. It's idyllic, and you could almost think you were back in the twenties. However in the Easter holidays it did seem like a good idea to book a table in the pubs if you wanted to eat.

Over a three night stay, we visited Thornton-le-Dale, Pickering castle, Rievaulx Abbey, Helmsley town, and Helmsley Castle, and drove through Hetton-le-Hole where there is an intriguing folk museum we will have to visit next time we stay. Nice site - we hope to visit again!

Two stars for family friendliness only on the basis there are no playgrounds, ropeswings, etc - just like campsites were when I was a kid - so not a criticism of the site at all, just info for campers with kids if you need a bit more from a site.

Busy Noisy Road

First Time visit, First time camping. Visited in March 2022. This is described as a tranquil site, this need to be edited because there is a major road that runs the full length of the site 10 to 15 meters from the pitch area. This is extremely busy and noisy. Local traffic, agricultural vehicles, HGV. The site is very clean ,spotless. The dog facilities are very good. For my first experience it wasn’t great, I guess I would have enjoyed it but for the amount of traffic creating such a constant noise from the road.

Lovely peaceful site

Enjoyed our stay at this site. No showers or loos, but that’s why we have on board facilities. Site is immaculate, wardens friendly and helpful. A short stroll to the pretty village. A great kicking off spot to explore the local area. Just a short but spectacular drive over the hill to Hutton-Le-Hole, another pretty village, and only another short drive to Pickering and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Definitely worth a visit to this site.

Lovely stay and really nice wardens.

First visit here in late September. Spoilt with warm unseasonal weather. The site is long and only one unit on each side of the road apart from a square area at the entrance and at the very end. There is a enclosure for dogs at the far end. The wardens where brilliant when we wanted to stay an extra night and also when my son decided he wanted to come for a couple of nights last minute due to some personal reasons. They went out of their way to reopen a couple of grass pitches that had dried up with the good weather enough for us to use. Thank you. There are a couple of pubs in the village, one too convenient at lightening my wallet, the other fantastic view but ale a bit pricey. I can recommend chippy at Pickering on Potter Hill. There’s an A board on the A170 before Lidl traffic lights. Really nice. Scenery is stunning around the area but not too much for younger ones in the vicinity without travelling a little. Overall we really enjoyed and talking to other owners on site particularly the ones with the same dog as our border terrier. Didn’t find road noise an issue especially being on that side in September.

Misleading Website Entry/ Only Partial Refund

One of my criteria for booking this site was the bullet that stated WiFi is available. In fact this is not true (in any practical sense), and moreover there is no mobile signal either. I only found this out after paying for our stay. As it essential for me to be in touch with my elderly father and his carers this was not a state of affairs I could live with and we had to leave after 15 mins and move to a private site next door (who have taken the trouble to install wifi). I asked for a refund as we had not used the site, and had booked under a false promise, but I was only given a partial refund - one night's fee was kept back. I don't consider this honest or good customer service in any shape or form. The area is lovely and the local pub is good; but this site? Forget it unless you have no relatives or responsibilities.

The Friendliest of Welcomes.

Had a stopover here to meet an old friend after leaving Bridlington and the welcome could not have been better. Maybe the Wardens here could take the Brid Wardens under their wing to show them how it's done. Plus points?..no toilet block...tick. No Tv signal to speak of..tick. No phone signal...tick. A big shout out to Graze on the Green for the best flat white ever and superb paninis . Only one negative and was my own fault , followed the sat nav which took us down the Chimney. Made for an exciting finish in a 7.5m motorhome. Hill descent and traction control did just what they should do. Can't wait to spend more quality time here. A gem of a site ran by excellent wardens.
