We have been to Thetford many, many times before and have always loved it. I was disappointed to say this visit wasn't as good as previously.
The site is fantastic and in a great setting in the middle of the forest where there is an abundance of wildlife and brilliant walks. it is quiet and peaceful (mainly) and kept in good order.
The reason for marking it down this time is the wardens. They are friendly and were welcoming. However, they are quite strict on somethings but very lapse on others. We had some rather noisy people near us on this visit. They had visitors for one day and proceeded to get drunk (not got a problem with that at all). The problem was they were very loud, and annoying to other caravan users. One old chap asked them to be a little quiet and they became very rude to him, verbally abusing him. It took almost 6 hours for the warden to intervene and ask them to quiet down. They would have known about the noise as they were sitting outside their van and as I walked past I could hear the noise.
What they did do was walk down and ask the noisy visitors to keep their two dogs on a lead. To be honest the dogs were good as gold and were not wandering from the pitch, so not sure why they asked them to keep the dogs on the lead but not keep the noise down!
This was the only thing I ever saw them point out. They did not stop people and tell them about their speed around site, I would say easily 15 - 20 mph which is quite dangerous as there were lots of children on site. Also someone put their caravan in incorrectly which meant there was not 6 metres between vans (huge fire hazard which is clearly stated in the Caravan Club rules). They did not ask them to put it in correctly which amazed me
This probably wouldn't have bothered me as much if they hadn't been so choosey over what they tackled and what they decided to let slide. I think speed and fire safety is much more important than a couple of well behaved dogs being off a lead.
Sorry about the moan. Thetford is really a nice site.
