Good for families

Time for change

I have been coming to this site for many years to spend my main summer holidays. Most arrive early as its a lottery as to what pitch type you get, i.e. grass, hardstanding, under trees, sloping pitch or near park areas. After my experience this year of having to spend two weeks on a wet, damp, overused and smelly grass pitch i feel its time for a change here. The club should give the consumer, us, the choice to stay either on a particular pitch or pitch type, grass or hardstanding. By giving us the choice would determine whether we stay here or use another site with choice. This year I arrived very early and still got a grass pitch which was already wet and muddy on arrival, many pitches had been moved forward of their original position because of the conditions encroaching on other pitches giving a cramped feel. Weekenders arrive and have a better choice than people spending a long time on a pitch. I put my comments into the comments book and the reply from the warden team was "Cornish weather eh!!" not really the answer to this problem people are seeking If people were able to choose a pitch when booking and knew where they were going to be there would not be a need for the many caravans that arrive early overnight to get the best pitch thus alleviating the mad rush, subsequently if a desired pitch was unavailable then we can make that conscious decision if we go or not. We as a family love this site which is why we return year on year but i`m fed up of the lottery. Many people i know like a grass pitch as i do but do not wish to spend 2 weeks on a muddy and smelly pitch and would like the choice due to the fact that on this site all pitches are classed the same regardless of hardstanding or grass. The club would gain extra revenue by charging a little extra for a guaranteed hardstanding pitch if so desired. The club does this at many other sites so why not here? Due to this years experience i am considering going somewhere else for the first time in years.

Arrived very early?🙀

Put your views to the club directly and make your voice heard, Swift. This isn’t the place to make the powers that be aware of your dissatisfaction and your 'review' may even be Deleted User because it’s not really a review.

Incidentally, could you not have moved to a HS when one became available?

We arrived late afternoon on a Tuesday last week. All the hardstandings were taken, although there were plenty of grass ones to choose from. We did choose a grass one overnight, then the next day a hard standing came available, we asked to move, which we did, no problem.

booking pitches only makes it worse for late arrivals. I like being able to choose on arrival rather than being directed. I am not keen on booking pitches beforehand even though it would reduce my ‘stress’ levels in selecting a ‘nice’ pitch. I suppose the real issue are the early arrivals! Who know if they get there early, they can choose the ‘best’ pitches hardstanding or grass.

so please Caravan Club, please don’t allow booking of pitches. I am sorry to all who might disagree.

I'm with 3Bikeman. I prefer to select a pitch on arrival. I dont visit the same sit more than once (except Cirencester), so how would i know which pitch would meet my requirements before getting to site? Google earth doesn't show everything.

The situation would be better if all early arrivals were turned away, not left to wait, but told to turn around and leave site. Theres no excess for turning up early.

I agree but give a little leeway. Pointless turning folk away who are 5 mins early.

I think folk travel to Cornwall overnight to avoid the traffic congestion rather than to arrive early in order to  bag some mythical "best pitch". I've always liked the fact that we can pick a pitch on arrival at club sites - although for me it's simply the first suitable one we find, I'm not one for multiple laps of a site "just in case"! (And I can tell you, it drives Mrs M up the wall! wink)

I'm all for common sense and discretion, the danger is 5 minutes will creep to 10 then 15 and so on.

If the policy is to set an arrival time at some point there has to be a cut off.

Easy T.... the club needs to make money and if people are prepared to pay the little extra for a pitch then they should be given that option, the extra paid could be put back into the site so as pitches don`t become waterlogged, would pay for drainage of some sort

Tin Wheeler.... once you've set up, really don't fancy taking it all down again then putting it up again

Not going to please everyone i know but to have a choice would help,

As I said, put your views to the club.

Presumably the pitch couldn’t really have been too bad if it was preferable to moving to a HS. I think you’ve negated your case there.

Are people prepared to pay extra? Not if you read the constant moans about the price of staying on a club site!
