First visit - would like to go back when the sun is shining.

This was our first visit to the Troutbeck site. Easily accessible from M6. First impressions were very good. Site is well laid out and clean and tidy. Great views of Blencathra (when we could see it minus the clouds) and there was a pleasant little stream at one side of the site, which I'm sure the children would have had great pleasure in using had the weather been nicer. We stayed in what appeared to be a nice quiet corner of the site, close to the Rookin House activity centre which is right next door. Despite the shelter from the fencing and trees around us, the activities from the centre were quite audible and we were disturbed at 8.50am on the first 2 mornings. The new shower/toilet facilities were top class - just a shame some people can't clean up after themselves when they've used the toilet - especially when all the cubicles are equipped with toilet brushes!!! Not everybody wants to see what people have left behind in there - and I'm not just talking about slight markings here! Perhaps a polite sign pinned on the back of toilet doors asking people to clean the loos when they've left a mess in there? We also noted an intermittent 'sewage' type smell coming from the male toilet block, which another visitor had also mentioned in passing. Perhaps a minor teething problem due to the new blocks being installed? Our children enjoyed the site and played happily with most of the other visiting youngsters. It was a shame the games room was closed as we only found this out upon our arrival and our 9-yr-old had been looking forward to using it. There is not much notice of its closure on the website - certainly not in the main body of text on the page. The site was in a great location close to places of interest and things to do . Unfortunately we only had one dry day out 5 when we stayed and we spent this taking in the delights of Ullswater and Aira Force which we would highly recommend. Whilst dodging the rain showers we also ended up in Penrith, Gretna Green, The Beacon Museum in Whitehaven and St Bees (lovely coastal walk here). The site coped very well with the days of heavy rainfall and there wasn't any standing/surface water that we noticed. We chose to leave a day earlier than planned due to the awful weather but we would like to come back when the weather is better to explore more what the Lake District has to offer.
