I have a booking for later in the year for an awning pitch but am unlikely to put up an awning. I only booked an awning pitch as they were the only ones available on the website when booking and I am sure this applies to most members who book such pitches. The only way to secure an awning pitch is to book early.

GS, there is no compulsion to erect an awning on an awning pitch. 

What is to rectify? People might fully intend to put up an awning but something prevents them at the time - the weather, a bad back…. Would you have the wardens march around and insist awnings be erected forthwith?

GG above makes a very good point and you have no way of knowing what pitches were available when those 49 people booked.

I find it very unusual that you can only get a pitch with an awning as 99/100 it's the other way round and found it so over the last 5 years...

Either reduce fees or increase fees for certain sites is an option and also he weather was glorious ...so 49 people out of 53 with a bad back?

Don't some people realise the club still has issues to sort....they are striving for perfection but are not quite there yet.

You do have all the options. There are awning and non awning pitches. If you want an awning book an awning pitch. No awning pitches available? Either do without an awning or go elsewhere. Pretty simple really.

As I said before, no one can know what pitches were available when those other people booked. They may have had no choice.

Really? Many sites only have a handful of non-awning pitches so very often there are only awning pitches available as GG found.

When looking at the booking page for the site in question the FIRST option is normally standard with awning,have you scrolled down to the other options  of pitches that are available on the site,I ask as I corrected someone on a site who was ammazed that there were non awning blue pegs that could be booked on line

There are a few pitches where non-awning is a popular choice such as at Bunree where the front row onto the loch are non-awning only. Often they are otherwise not popular. On a site there may be 100 pitches. If 4 are non awning there is then only a choice of 4 pitches whereas much greater choice of the others to select your preferred pitch from. 

I always book an awning pitch at York if possible. The reason being is that many non-awning pitches have the peg tight to the rear corner with bushes to the side. This makes it impossible to open almost anything on that side. I'd imagine it could cause problems to caravaners as well with their water vessels. And yes the wardens are very strict regarding pitching location.
