Handy for Madrid

Second time here, showers and toilets clean but only lukewarm for washing up. Roadways are narrow and difficult to negotiate with low walls and trees. Very noisy neighbours and some shanty town permanent sites typical of Spain Our big problem, and our neighbours, was underpowered electric supply. Just boiling our kettle blew us out ( had it 5 years used all over no issues before). Even plugged in laptop was too much, every pitch is on computerised smart meter and helpful lady on reception adamant it was our appliances. Animal poo on our pitch and lots of places again I think local permanent occupiers at fault. Still a handy site with pleasant staff but watch the electrics

Okay for one night

Stopped here on way home from southern Spain last week. It was quiet but there again extreme heat may have kept those under canvas away. Check in was efficient and friendly. Lots of permanent pitches on site where people had been there so long they had literally grown vines around their caravans and had forgotten to throw away their old fridges which were littered here and there on their pitches etc. The site has obviously invested some money in some cabins but it was a little tired. Swimming pool was welcome given the heat but amusing as young lad obviously engaged to lifeguard and clean the pool sat in corner with his harem playing loud music and did very little - as said though, we found this amusing to observe and didn’t bother us and the music was actually quite good - we Shazammed it anyway. Pool was a bit like people soup and no rules meant that the kids who have to lob a ball at each other as hard as they can renders areas of it largely unusable by anyone else. Feeling very British saying that but I do like some rules so everyone can enjoy the facilities and some good old fashioned parenting. Also, satnav wanted to take us one way but we followed signs to campsite - thank goodness we ignored satnav at very last moment on this occasion.

Caravan and Cannabis Club

The 2nd out of our 4 sites in Spain in order to explore Madrid and relatively easy to find just off the motorway. Check in was simple and efficient from very helpful, English speaking staff. Our pitch was allocated however, very tricky to get onto due to the incline and trees limiting the ability to manoeuvre. The actual pitch was hard gravel and proved a challenge getting the awning tent pegs in. The restaurant was good with very helpful, enthusiastic staff. The proximity to Madrid is the only plus feature for this site with a bus ride terminating in the centre of the city at the bus station - dead easy to get to and relatively cheap. We didn't notice any noise from the adjacent motorway as this was drowned out by the music from the static homes on site carrying on till the early hours. This, I guess you can put down to “campsite life” along with the aroma of burger, beer and …… cannabis wafting through the air in the evening. Whilst this site has the advantage of being close to Madrid, this seems to be the only advantage and we eagerly left feeling we had just been sleeping on a trailer park.

Good for a stopover

We arrived at Arco Iris after getting off the ship at Bilbau as we wanted a stop midway to the coast and wanted to explore Madrid. This site is the perfect place to do this and we stayed 2 nights so that we had a full day in Madrid. The staff are very friendly and the receptionist very helpful. We selected a pitch halfway up the site (which is very steep the deeper you go in to the site) because it was very hot (we went at the beginning of August) and we were only staying for 2 nights so that we could spend a day in Madrid. The bus stop to the local town where you get the bus to Madrid is just outside the site entrance - so convenient. The return is just as easy with the stop right next to the bridge over the motorway so that you can easily get back to the site. The site itself was very, very peaceful. Showerblocks in the middle were good - clean and nice to use. The shower senses are a little alarming at first (they look like cameras in the cubicle!!!) but we were very happy with the facilities. We didn't use the restaurant given the time we were there but used the supermarket for basic things and we were able to get some ice from the bar (they gave us a big bag!). We would definitely use this site again as a stopover to access Madrid or just as a one night stop whilst traveling across the country. It is very convenient from the motorway (which is not intrusive in terms of sound or seeing traffic all the time. We can strongly recommend it if this is what you are looking for.

Not what we were expecting

The site is easily accessed from the slip road off the motorway but this in term does lead some traffic noise. We were booked on for two nights as we were making our back to Santander mid October. Reception staff were very pleasant and helpful. We had taken a pitch with private facilities that are situated right at the top of the site so any road noise was elimanted. Unfortunately our stay coincided with a bank holiday so the site was quite busy with families enjoying themselves until the early hours! Being out of season the pool was closed but left to go green with algae which wasn't very appealing. There were also a number of long term pitches that were not well kept having old cars etc on the pitch and gave a part of the site a very run down feel. We used the restaurant one night and enjoyed good service and an OK meal. The shop was not open at all, morning bread was available at the bar. Doubt we would use this site again.

Oh Dear!

We booked this site for a Madrid stopover. Access off the motorway was good. Access to pitches was okay but do walk around first. The upper toilet block is moderate at best. Showers are operated by a sensor, so be ware of a cold water shock. Bus service to Madrid was good with only one change needed. Be aware on returning from Madrid, you need to get off on the other side of the motorway and use a footbridge to access the site. The supermarket is very poor. Didn’t use the restaurant or swimming pool which was vey busy. There is a very strong drain smell at the entrance to the site. I can see why this site has a two star rating!

Pleasantly Surprised

We’ve just returned from Barcelona and Madrid, and we spent 8 nights at Arco Iris with the intention of visiting Madrid. Very few sites this close to Madrid to allow comfortable day trips to the capital. We were a little apprehensive as there were no CMC reviews posted, 6amps, and we had a twin axle. Nightmare getting around Madrid on the motorways, especially coming from the east- 3 motorway ring roads! What a pleasant surprise to find that there are now several large pitches with water and drains! We arrived on a Thursday to a good choice of pitches, having changed our arrival date based on lessons learned from Barcelona Villanova- don’t arrive on the weekend if you have a twin axle! Despite being positioned virtually on the motorway carriageway (access is off the service road that runs parallel) there is little noise, and no road noise the further up the site you pitch. There are now 3 toilet blocks which were all impeccably clean, with showers controlled by movement sensors- took a bit of time to work out how to turn shower on! It was good to see the ongoing maintenance on the site, with hedge trimming and pitch tidying and planting ongoing. We actually had 3 rosebushes planted on our pitch whilst we were there! Pitches far better maintained than French sites (don't expect uk standards) For visiting Madrid, there is a bus leaves the site entrance, with one change at Villaviciosa onto the Madrid service. Sadly the Sunday service was very sparse, so we drove to Boadilla (10 mins), easy parking, and caught the direct bus to Madrid- 50 mins; and did the same other days. Drops you at Moncloa by Metro station. There is a tramway to Madrid from Boadilla, which looks appealing, but locals told us it was very slow! Small shop onsite and also restaurant; excellent supermarkets in Boadilla and Villaviciosa. Both these towns look comparatively new, and well laid out. There are some beautiful houses in the surrounding areas, and the bus journey to Madrid really gives you a feel for the area.
