A beautifully shady site with lots of local things to do

A very nice site in a great location in the Dordogne with lots to do nearby and slightly further afield without having to travel long distances. The booking we made with CAMC allocates a set pitch whereas it seems that those who book direct or via other means can select from a number of empty pitches. The pitch we were allocated had great shade bearing in mind the very high temperatures of the Summer. It hadn't been prepared and the grass was quite long when we arrived. It was a substantial pitch that did meet our needs and you can set up as you wish. The welcome was simply to confirm the pitch number and show us which way to go, there was no other local information given but visits to Reception did find the staff happy to answer any queries. The site increased in business over the 11 nights we were there and the noise level did creep up to at times what was less than relaxing. The size of the pitches allows large family Units or group of friends to set up "communes" next door to each other or get lots on one pitch (whereas CAMC bookings are for Caravan Car plus 2 for example, it appears that other bookings were for the pitch). There is no central point and whilst a bar or shop is not the be all and end all it did seem like the site missed a focal point, probably hence why people stayed around their pitches when they were on site and the noise level was more noticeable. The facilities are plentiful and kept really clean. The site does not provide loo roll but that meant that the tidiness around the toilets blocks seemed better than some places. The pool is excellent and was never excessively crowded it only lacks shade - there is none around the pool but was great for a cooling and relaxing dip in the early evening. The closeness of river activities and the historic castles and bastide towns provide lots of opportunities to do and see things of real interest; the river that runs right alongside the site offered another outlet for people although children do need to be supervised. There is a bio supermarket and a petrol station in St Cybranet (1 km) and the local town of Sarlat (about 10 km) has the usual range of supermarkets. Cycle paths and walking routes are plentiful. There were no problems with water supply (plentiful nearby taps), chemical toilet points or electricity hook up or consistency of supply. The waste water points were raised drains that are a little difficult for wastemaster type collecting devices. All in all an area i would definitely revisit and the site would be one that I would consider again.
