STOPOVER AUGUST 2015
We used this site for a stopover again this year on the way south, with the benefit of experience we parked up past the reception and selected a pitch for the night on foot so we could stay hooked up. The staff were again helpful and friendly and we purchased fries from the restaurant which now offers a discounted take away menu. On site there is a well-kept pool area and we also discovered some quiet walks down to a large lake on the far side of the chateau. The site is also signed from junction 28 of the A20 as junction 27 only has usable southbound. The showers and toilets we again found clean if in need of updating.
Good for stoppover
Stop over on way to the south
Definately not a five star site ! The toilet and wash facilities are old, run down and smelly ! The gates are padlocked from 9 at night till 9 in the morning, so no chance of an early start ! But on the plus side the staff are very freindly, the food at the restaurant is very good, and the pitches are a nice size !
Response from the Caravan Club:
Thank you for posting your review online. We are delighted to hear your positive feedback regarding the restaurant, staff and pitches. If you do ever need to leave a site early in the morning we are more than happy to request an early departure for you in advance. The sanitary facilities at all our overseas sites are inspected and approved on a yearly basis by qualified overseas site inspectors. We do appreciate that some are not up to UK standards but if a building is classified (I believe the UK equivalent is listed) there are strict laws regarding renovation or structural changes.
Response from Chateau Leychoisier:
We are surprised and disappointed to hear about this unfortunate incident. We understand that the sanitary block is in an old building, however, the campsite is indeed situated on a "classified" site which makes it impossible to make any structural changes to the buildings. As regards the odour, we can only presume that it was possible during a thundery period in the summer, when sometimes the drains can smell. The septic tanks are emptied regularly and we can only apologise to our customers for this problem that they encountered.
Concerning the opening hours of the gates, we are surprised as I myself (the receptionist) arrive every morning just before 8am and the gates are always open. The opening time is actually 8am and is displayed around the site.
