Very English site and car essential

Thanks to previous internet research we knew we would arrive when reception was on siesta, but didn't anticipate how full the large car park would already be. Backing out was 'fun' and we used a large layby on the opposite side of the road to wait. Once open, the receptionist was friendly and spoke several languages well. We did have to pay on arrival which was unexpected. The little sanitary blocks are good and have hot water, but hot showers are only available at the top and bottom of the site. Tons of books in reception :-) There's a very different vibe to most Spanish sites and Florantilles does feel very English. Lots of smart permanent set-ups made it cliquey and a little eerie over our week at Christmas 2014 because most were empty. On the plus side, you could hear a pin drop! It was always clean and tidy, and the guys pruning trees while we were there were courteous and considerate. The site does open onto busy roads, complete with prostitutes waiting patiently every day, and is totally unsuitable for walking anywhere. After a couple of days, we realised pitches didn't have bicycles on them either and everyone drives in order to get anywhere. In fact several drove from their pitches to the bar as well! The bar/restaurant was open and seemed popular although we didn't eat there ourselves. And the onsite shop was open but sparsely stocked. I don't think we'd go back to Florantilles for any length of time due to the lack of walking/cycling opportunities, but would bear it mind for an overnight stop en route.
